DVD's for Preschoolers
Top 5 Preschool Christian Movies
Most doctors and experts on children will agree that preschool age children should not be watching more than 2 hours of television each day. However, we busy moms know that the tv can sometimes be used as a way for us to get some quiet time in during our day, get the house cleaned or even take a shower. It is sad to say, but in my day I do need to use movies to help me out. I need to choose wisely what I have my children watch. I have tried several videos, but have found the following most helpful and worthwhile.
1.) Boz the Bear - This is a DVD series that is basically a Christian, animated version of Barney. Boz teaches colors, shapes, silly songs, and good values. My kids are very entertained my this series and love the catchy songs that go along with it. You will find yourself catching on to the phrase "Wowy Bozowie" in no time! Perfect for ages 2-5.
2.) Veggie Tales- Most people are familiar with this series of Bible stories that use vegetables as characters. There is a wide variety of stories available and they do a great job of teaching the lessons while making them fun. My kids did not really get into these until they were older because of the more complex story structure. Adults will also find these videos funny. Best for ages 5 and up.
3.) My Catholic Family - This is a television series on EWTN. The animation isn't the greatest, but there are a lot of wonderful stories and practical wisdom contained in these episodes. I set my DVR to record these and then we watch them later. I have learned a lot about my faith from this very educational show. This would be best for ages 3-6.
4.) Hermie - Is another great cartoon for the younger children. The story is engaging and contains the values that you would want your child to have. The educational aspect is not as present as in some of the other videos, but it is a worthwhile dvd. This video is wonderful for children ages 2 and up.
5.) Cat Chat - This is not really a dvd, but it is an audio show for kids. Even though there is nothing on screen to go along with this, my kids beg for Cat Chat all the time. The teaching in this audio series is amazing. I found myself learning a great deal about the saints, Eucharist, and the Mass. Moses the Cat keeps the kids laughing. We sing the songs all day long. The Cat Chat series is best for those children age 3-6.
I hope you have found this to be an insightful and helpful resource for your family. We must not waste a minute of our day and our precious time spent with our children. Every activity that we do with them should somehow show them how much Jesus loves and cares for them and allow them to grow in their faith. It is crucial that we do our research in the media that affects our children.
