BIBLICAL BRIDES: The First and Last
The biblical brides poem illustrates the creation of Eve for the first Adam and the bride of Christ, the Church for the second Adam. The poem was inspired by a sermon of Rev. Rosemarie Brown from Van Nest Assembly of God, during the 2007 Crossroad Tabernacle Women’s Retreat. The scripture references for this creation are: Genesis 1:26-27; 2:2-25; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20; 15:42, 44-49; Ephesians 5:28-33; 1 Peter 1:16-17; Romans 8:29, 38-39; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 11:2; 1 John 3:2-3.
Custom Made Marriage
In fashioning male and female in His image,
A comparable bride for Adam was God's unique plan,
For all living creatures and Adam were created from the dust,
But Eve was made from the rib of her man.
As Adam named each living creature,
It intensified a deep-seated longing from within…
Allowed by God to create anew, differently from the others,
Creating Adam a helper, a comparable gift custom made just for him.
God wants those of us alone and feeling lonely
To know we are a special treasure of great wealth.
Unconditionally loved, blood purchased and forgiven,
He longs to take us unto Himself.
Because Eve was created from the side of Adam,
One day God will create the church from the side of Christ.
With the first Adam, we have borne the image in the natural,
With the second Adam we'll bear the image of the spiritual life.
Satan attacks marriage to stop God's ultimate purpose,
But, we the church, are the bride of Christ called to be joined to Him.
The two shall become one forsaking all else for Jesus,
Mandated to walk holy and flee from all forms of sin.
There is a coming marriage, where there will be no break-up or heartache;
Unlike with Israel's idolatry or Hosea's harlot mate.
For I am persuaded as in Romans 8:38-39,
Us from God's love, no not nothing can separate!
It is good for man to be in relationship and have a helpmeet;
Marriage is God's idea, a glorious, tangible evidence of His love.
The admonition for men to love their wives sacrificially
And for wives to respect their husbands is Scripture inspired from above.
When we look to the lover of our souls, He will conform us;
We are the brides… prep time is now… it's in God's plan.
We are members of His body and the best is yet to come!
Blessed are those called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
