The Children of Humility
Humility births…
Forgiveness
Obedience.
Trust
Faithfulness
For all of the above to take root in heart, there needs to be a healthy establishment of humility. Not just once but growing, expanding, overflowing. Without humility all of the above would be ‘works’, legal creations, temporal Band-Aids. Humility is a beginning seed for all the fruits of the Spirit.
Without humility
I could not see and recognize my sin; I would never know my need for a Savior.
Without humility
I would never admit that I just could not do it on my own… but that I need a Savior.
Humility recognizes my own need for forgiveness and enables me to have compassion and grace poured in…to then forgive others.
Humility helps me to see that the sacrifice of self works can never replace the joy of pure obedience. The sacrifice of self will. I am then acknowledging that there is One higher than I, more knowledgeable than I ~ to which I must bow my knee in humble submission, not question but obey.
From there humility takes me the few short steps to growing trust. Yes, I may not have the full picture, and yes, I may not understand all the why’s and how’s, but humble trust says, You, my Lord, know better than I, You alone have all the threads in Your hand, You alone are worthy to be trusted with all that is dear to my heart and I can rest. That takes humility.
Humility also brings us to faithfulness. True godly humility sees the One in whom I have faith. True godly humility enables me to walk in the life of my risen Lord ~ not needing a life of my own. True humility brings me to peaceful ~ restful ~ contentment.
Without humility ~ we may have salvation but we miss out on the life changing, life giving fruits of the Spirit. Humility brings the quiet that our souls long for as we walk within the life of Jesus. Not needing to create footsteps of our own.
Mark revealed to us that, “After Jesus sat down and told the twelve disciples to gather around him, he said, "If you want the place of honor, you must become a slave and serve others!" Mark 9:35 (CEV)
