A True Life Miracle of Healing

This is true testimony. Years ago I subjected myself to learning about spiritual gifts based on the Holy Bible. The gift of tongues and all that goes with it became a real part of my life after a Spirit-filled couple laid hands on me and prayed that I receive this gift. I was frightened in yielding to something that might control me that I didn't understand, but while driving my car home that day, I yielded and spoke out the words, 'Allah Mashiach'! I felt goose bumps all over me. I had no idea what I said, but two months later, I did the research. 'Allah' is the Arabic word for 'God', and yes, this 'name' is also the Muslim god of Islam. Which was I saying? Only God knows. Mashiach means Messiah in Hebrew! Was I proclaiming 'God Messiah', and/or was the Spirit praying salvation through Jesus Christ, the Messiah to the Muslims? This was so many years ago, and yet when I understand more about end-time prophecy, more and more Muslims are indeed getting saved.

1 Corinthians 13:1 teaches that we can speak with tongues of men and of angels! On the Day of Pentecost, the languages spoken by the disciples were man's languages (or at least heard by all the present tribes of Israel, each in his own language). I won't go too deeply into the doctrinal studies here, but I will share with you a true miracle using the gift of spiritual tongues in prayer said over my dear friend who suffered a mysterious illness doctors were unable to identify.

Her name was Carla. Her husband's name was Shawn. Shawn worked with a man named Frank who attended the same church as I. I attended a Southern Baptist church in the little town of Oscoda, Michigan. Typically, Baptists do not believe the gift of tongues is still in use today. Having many spiritual gifts, including that of knowledge, God had shown another Spirit-baptized believer and me that Frank would someday be a pastor of his own church.

Okay, back to Carla. Carla was one of my discipleship students. We met once a week to learn how to study the Bible and the basics of discipleship. Carla shared with me she had a mysterious illness that caused her to have black-outs. She suffered this for two years at that time. Medical doctors could not figure out the cause, so they scheduled her to be seen by a neurologist in Ohio.

While she was gone, I prayed for her. God showed me to anoint her with oil and pray in tongues when she returned. She returned with no news, and all I had on hand was Crisco! I told Carla what God had directed me to do. I anointed her forehead with the Crisco and prayed over her in the Spirit. Nothing came to me about the nature of her illness. So, we continued our study.

While she talked to me at the table, I suddenly "envisioned" her with a very stiff neck. I missed whatever it was she said to me because of this. I politely interrupted her and asked if she'd ever had problems with her back or neck. She taught cheerleading and aerobics! She never suffered stiff back or neck problems in her life. I told her that all I knew was that I was to pray over her back before she left.

When I again prayed over her back, the knowledge came. Not wanting to frighten her, I didn't want to pray it out loud, but God prompted me to speak it out so I would "call it out". Spinal Meningitis! Yes, it frightened Carla, but she somehow left with joy and singing that day.

Three days later she called me in tears to tell me to go to a local hospital. An ambulance was on the way to pick her up. She immediately got off the phone. I managed to get behind the ambulance and follow them to the hospital. Shawn (Carla's husband) checked her in to the emergency room. I stood a few feet away and saw Carla in a wheelchair next to her husband. I overheard Shawn tell the admissions nurse the doctors were now suspecting spinal meningitis! Carla could not move her back or neck!

Because this was my first experience administering the gifts of the Spirit and because of what I'd been taught by traditional Baptist teaching, I was shocked and scared! At first, I wondered if I had practiced some sort of witchcraft and brought this on her! Carla was admitted. Hours later I found out she indeed had spinal meningitis ~ caused by an untreated sinus infection that spread to fillings in her teeth, up into her ears and now into her spinal fluid! This caused her blackouts over the past two years! Now I knew I didn't bring this life-threatening illness on, but indeed "called it out"! I didn't even know Carla two years before.

Carla stayed in the hospital for five days on IV antibiotics. She left fully cured. Shawn was so excited about how God revealed this to us just three days before she was admitted and gave her peace throughout the ordeal...and brought complete healing, he went to work and told Frank about it!

Frank argued with Shawn that I was not an "elder" in the church to be laying hands on the sick. And, that the gift of tongues was done away with. He used 1 Corinthians 13:10 as his argument: ...when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. Frank believed that which is perfect to be the written Word of God, the Bible.

When Carla came back for discipleship class, we utilized the very Bible Frank had given to Shawn, the New American Standard version. In the footnote for that verse it stated that which is perfect is Jesus Christ himself! Furthermore, verse 12 confirms this: "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known." Shawn went back to Frank to show him this. Frank then met with two pastors to do a doctrinal study on this subject. After hours of study, Frank and the two pastors realized that all the gifts are indeed to be used today by each and every child of God!

This miracle not only confirmed God's mighty power to me by giving me knowledge and subsequently witnessing healing in Carla, but Shawn's faith was restored! The two pastors revived the teaching in their churches! And yes, Frank started pastoring his own church, just as the Lord had shown. Praise God!
