House Blessing

Updated on May 16, 2015

If you have the opportunity to bless a new home or apartment it is always an excellent idea and you do not need a lot of stuff to do it. The very easiest way I have ever found is to get a sage smudge stick; they are easy to use and are totally idiot proof, which I need! Some people also like to use a spray bottle of purified or spring water laced with sea salt, but I have never found that necessary. A good attitude and a sage smudge stick are all I have ever used.

It is best to clear your mind as much as possible and to let no dark energy stay, you need to push that out and let in the good energy or your blessing will not do any good at all. Once you feel that you have cleared your mind and brought in the good energy it is time to light your smudge stick and get it smoldering.

Personally I prefer to start at the bottom and work my way to the attic.. The basics of blessing a house is your frame of mind, a sage smudge stick and the prayer or affirmation you feel comfortable with. I like the following but you can use whatever you think proper or appropriate:

· Bless this house, Make it holy
· Allow only good to be present here
· Love and Light are here to stay

After all is done and you have blessed all the rooms it is a good idea to walk back through the house to see if it feels any different. I know some people may not be sensitive enough to do this, but if you noticed your house needed a blessing then you should be able to tell a difference in the atmosphere. All areas will hopefully have a lighter feeling and have good energy flowing. It is also recommended that the person who did the blessing end the ritual by showering to wash away the negative energy that may have “stuck” on them.

I prefer these to any other!

Rabbi, I hope it works for you, but remember to clear your mind beforehand and have you already tried just asking them to leave? In some cases you just need to explain that this is your home now and they need to leave. Let me know how you do!

I'm going to try using your idiot proof smudge stick to get rid of these rotten ghosts in my house.

Thanks Kitty! Yes I know I need to invest in a new camera! Grace! Thank you, I did not know it was similar to a Native American Tradition, that is cool, I might have to look that up. Thanks to you both!

Voted up and useful. I'm very happy to be your first follower, though can I make a quick suggestion? More pictures might spice up these hubs and grab more peoples' attention. :) Just a thought. Can't wait to read more, though!
