Humility: Why Does GOD Require it?

Updated on May 4, 2012

God Rewards Humility:Why?

Now to part two on Humility...Truth Is...

Regardles of how you may think about the existence of God as well as what pleases him; there's some things we just can't control and that is what He expects from us and the fact that He does exist. You also can't control what He rewards, likes, and quite frankly, hates. We've already read that God opposes haughty or overly proud people, and that He rewards those that are humble(James 4:8); looking at Mary's words upon learning that she'd conceive found at Luke 1:50-53, we see where she remarks how God brought down the haughty ones, lifted the lowly, took away the riches of the wealthy and basically exerted his awesome power(s) on behalf of those with a lowly spirit. But let's get some clarification on this matter in order not to be sidetracked with rhetoric...

For one, let's get the understanding that being humble does NOT involve walking around "looking" meek and playing the martyr (in one's mind) as many so-called "Christians" do, sigh-ing and rolling thier eyes offering dejected facial expressions. That's just passive aggressive fanaticism at work. Humility is a state of being as opposed to a state of mind. It's when the meekness is there simply because that's one's true nature. You really do love other people, you really do care. You feel a twinge of pang when someone else suffers, and you earnestly would like to know what God wishes of you and readily adapt your lifestyle to the doing of it.

Over the past couple of years I have repeatedly heard several young people, particularly celebrities say that they were humble...Mercy! If you're really humble you don't announce it, but rather it is evidenced in all that you may do. It is a wonderful thing that God is who He is and that we humans (including me) do not have the authority or ability to forgive or condemn. With all the disinformation and misteaching that is rampant around the world and people believing some of the most ridiculous things it's easy for a human to become utterly frustrated and go berserk as it were and then who really would survive? 2Peter 3:9 reminds us that God is not slow regarding his promise(salvation), but is LONG-suffering towards us as He wishes to save as many of us as possible. We are told in his word that He wishes for "all sorts of men to be saved..."; and it must be a heavy burden for him to know that everyone won't be! THink about that when He allows your conscience to remind you each time that it does about opportunities to please him. He is trying to count you among those who "make it".

Speaking of "Making it", I keep hearing this song on the radio supposedly a "praise song" where the man sings:" I never would have made it without you(Lord)..." with reference to Jesus of course. First, unless the "End has already come and you are one of the fortunate ones to survivie it, you HAVE NOT MADE IT! Again I remind you readers that even Paul who wrote the greater portion of the new testament stated that he pummels his body and leads it as a slve in the hope of not losing his own calling, and none of us were chosen to write any books of the bible so I suggest we do as Paul said and "Run the race until the end...". That is what perturbs me about the "Christians" of today. They truly believe that since they don't hang out on the streets or openly get drunk or do drugs (some still do behind closed doors) and they go to church and yell 'Jesus'! all the time that they have salvation (and God) in their right pocket. How sad! All these people have is a solid hold on a fantasy and false hope. This is a prime example of the lack of humility on the part of today's christians. They feel as well as openly claim to have a firm hold on salvation and God's favor when neither is actually guaranteed to anyone. I can't express enough times that Jesus himself said that in the time of the end people would be yelling his name and claiming to have done so much in his name only to be rejected by him for totally ignoring his father Jehovah. Matthew 7:21-23 Read this scripture over and over until you get a clear picture of what Jesus was actually saying. It will take a truly humble spirit to accept what God reveals to you...Truth Is...

Humility, What God expected of man when first placing him on earth was for him to simply function and be like God only on a much smaller scale. That's why He granted us thinking abilities and inventiveness(we were created in his image after all), and He provided us all the materials we need right here on earth to do our own creating(inventing) and discovery. He also provided sustenance and entertainment(beauty, animals, food, oxygen, etc) All He looked for was obedience from us as to his instruction. In fact, the question of obedience and humility never arose until upon hearing that she'd have the ability to "be like God" and make decsions, the fruit became something desireable to Eve then Adam stupidly acquiesced and followd suit thus condemning everyone after him. Had they had humility they would had rejected even the thought of going against the very one who'd created then taught and nurtured them. One wonders, what exactly could they have been thinking? But then we look at some of the things we ourselves do and think as well as our own decisions and that alone should be a humbling experience! Oh how we err! Humility guards us from failing God as well as ourselves and relying on our own perceived ability.(Proverns 3:5-7)

There are many other examples this series will cover in the following articles; but meanwhile it would be good to offer much prayer and supplication(talk to God naturally) and seek after humility as it is THE most endearing quality that God looks for from us. It is what makes us teachable as well as approachable. It makes us true "sons of God" with the knowledge that Jesus, the ultimate son off God led the way by example of to what extent our humility should go to...Truth Is...

b-blessed!
