Loneliness and victory over it
Loneliness is something that many people deal with during some time in their life.
Loneliness can be because a person is physically alone, meaning the person does not have any family or friends around. Or it can be an emotional loneliness. This is when the individual has family and friends, but still feels alone. Perhaps he or she feels alone because they feel that no one understands them or what they are going through.
There is also another form of loneliness, this is spiritual loneliness. This type occurs when a person is seeking something or someone who is beyond our type of being, the individual is searching for a higher power, a creator, a God or Goddess; usually he or she is on a spiritual journey.
People can encounter loneliness in many places and/or during many stages of life. But how can we overcome loneliness?
I found loneliness many times, during my teen years when I was trying to figure out life, also when I left home and joined the military, another time was when I served overseas, then again when my wife and I separated...and so on.
During all these times I was not physically alone, I had friends or family around, but how did I overcome this loneliness, a loneliness that enveloped me and made me feel like I was in a void devoid of any life, a void filled with hopelessness, darkness and despair?
Well in this place that felt dark and lifeless had a light and life within it. It was Jesus that helped me through it all, He is my life and my light. Even before I knew Him and understood Him, He was there. He took me through it and helped me to overcome it, He helped me to be victorious.
Here in Isaiah 41:10 we can read that He is with us and will help us.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Jesus will help us, He wants to help us. Let us reach out to Him and give our anxieties up to Him. Even when you feel that no one cares, remember that Jesus does care about you.
1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
In Joshua 1:5 He again affirms to us that He will help us, that He will not leave us nor forsake us. He WANTS to help us.
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.
In Psalm 23:4 we know what is said. No matter what we are going through, He will walk with us. We do not need to fear anything that is coming against us. If we believe in Jesus and trust Him, then whether it is through life or into death, we will be victorious, we will see His face.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
In the next three three Psalms we can read and understand that the Lord is for all, we ought to wait only unto God and our expectations must be only for Him. In the end, nothing else matters. He is everything to all of His creation. We are simply to worship and serve Him, to do as He wants, even if those who are close to us forsake us, Jesus never will.
Psalms 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him
Psalms 68:5-65
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God sets the lonely in families,
he leads out the prisoners with singing;
but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
Psalms 27:10 10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will receive me.
We all may encounter loneliness some time in our lives. However, when we feel alone, when we feel that no one understands us or cares, remember that Jesus is with us. Jesus wants to help us. All we need to do is let Him into our life, let Him help us. If He is with us, then who can be against us? Invite Him into your life, let Him be your Saviour, He wants this and you need Him. With Jesus all things are possible.
God Bless you
