Online Bible Verses about Loving Others- Psalm 97
“Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10NIV
Studied in its full context, scripture does not appear to ever condone hateful feelings toward another person. In fact, when asked for one commandment covering all, Christ responded as follows in Matthew Chapter 22:
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
So loving the Lord and other people is the way to go. Hate directed toward others is apparently out.
We do, however, see hatred justified in today’s verse. That is, hatred of evil. Not hatred of evil people, but rather that of the evil done.
This while always keeping the following in mind:
1. God sets the standards of good and evil, not me.
2. All have sinned and fallen short. Put another way, have done evil. In fact, I have already done some today.
It might be a good idea to remind ourselves that we are amongst the guilty. The only fingers to be pointed by myself are to be pointed inward.
