Online Bible Verses About Encouragement - 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Encourage One Another
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
God’s primary reason for putting us down here, that we would freely choose to enter into a relationship with him.
In doing so, He also has much work for us to do on His behalf. Today we see the call to be encouragers. We should be, and when we are, always remember to give credit to God as opposed to patting ourselves on the back.
I was running last Saturday, up a long hill on my regular route. Creature of habit that I am. Nice sunny day, much to be thankful for. Looked across the street, and saw this elderly guy walking. I see him often. Walks with a cane while he listens to his IPOD, limps a bit. Has a look of determination on his face. Ran past him and waved as usual, then stopped. Times like this are when I feel God speaks to us in a non-verbal way. If that is indeed the case, He at this time was telling me to go back and meet the guy. Be a new friend, an encourager. Stopped to talk, found out what I suspected. He a was cool old guy; had back surgery 5 years ago, they told him chances were he would not walk afterwards. After realizing he could indeed walk, daily walks have taken place since then. The threat of losing his ability to do so motivated him to remain able. I thought that was great, and told him about my own reasons for being out here running. Our stories, turns out, are similar. It also turns out that I have a new friend, someone I will encounter and continue to encourage. And he will encourage me as well.
Today we can try to identify someone and encourage them. Maybe tomorrow as well. Heck, do it every day.
