As you know I have been playing with this scenario in my head based on the other 5 personal astrology planets (other than your sun/zodiac sign). When you first meet someone what planet do you see? Do you see the sun sign, moon sign, ascendant sign, etc? It is tricky to say what personal planet someone first sees in a person. Even so, it’s fun to try to take a go at it.

Here is my theory:

When someone first meet you (and vice versa) they meet your ascendant sign. After a while once they get to talking with you they meet your mercury and Venus signs concurrently. It is on this occasion you laugh, joke, and get to know each other more. After you both depart, deciding that you both like each other and want to meet up somewhere. You both suggest places to go and agree on a place. Later on they meet you, decide that they like you even more and meet several times with you. It is on these occasions when they meet your sun sign and your basic personality. You hang out, have fun and they get to see your Mars sign in action. After a while they get to know you more personally, soon becoming close friends. It is there that they get to see and notice more of your Venus and Moon signs, while getting a taste of the darker sides of your mars and mercury signs.

In this scenario I will be talking about Ascendant/Rising, and Mercury, in the zodiac sign of Cancer. This does not specifically refer to the sun sign in Cancer (some similarities may apply however).

Ascendant/Rising in Cancer

Your ascendant/rising is Cancer, so your first house will most likely be in Cancer and ruled by the Moon. Cancer is ruled by the Moon and is the first cardinal water sign of the zodiac. The moon in zodiac symbolizes the mother and early upbringing (home life, childhood, family).

The moon also governs emotions. Off the bat the Cancer rising person is nurturing and motherly (even the men); and they wear their hearts on their sleeves (even if they try to hide it). You would just want to hug them, even if you are not the hugging type. They just look so huggable (very much like the sun sign).

Not what you would think to be a Cancer rising person, but Angelina Jolie is a Cancer Rising (Sun in Gemini, Moon in Aries)

Ascendant/Rising in Cancer (con'td).

A Cancer rising person is sensitive but it’s so endearing and quite cute. At its worst the cancer rising person can be annoying, needy and clingy, but they don’t take it that far. They usually reserve this side of themselves to the few people that they are very close to.

The most you will get out of them is that they are crybabies. Crying during a movie (even an action film), crying when sad or happy, etc. Again for most of that you will have to be close to them for them to show that side to you.If anything you can call them big softies (as oppose to cry babies). Cancer rising are usually quiet and shy (especially when they first meet someone) and are quite protective of themselves (aka feelings) and their loved ones.

Even so, they are quite sweet. The men are the ultimate gentlemen and the women are quite sensual. They will dress comfortably and look adorable. Overall the Cancer rising person is sweet, nurturing and caring.

Mercury in Cancer

Your Mercury is in Cancer, so you communicate and think in a Watery/Lunarian way. Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon. Water signs are the masters of using emotion and intuition. Like its sign counterparts Pisces and Scorpio, they think and communicate in typical water sign fashion. This is translates to communicating in emotional, indirect ways. A Cancer mercury person (like other water sign mercury signs) instinctively and naturally feel their way through things and think in terms of their emotions.

A fire sign thinks and communicates passionately, an earth sign thinks and communicates practically and an air sign thinks and communicates intellectually. That is just their nature. A Cancer mercury person is that person that will listen (and understand you) when you are upset, scare or sad. A Mercury in Cancer person will often start a sentence with I feel (rather I think). Cancer is protective of their self and feelings and mercury isn’t the emotions (the moon is).

Mercury in Cancer (con'td.)

Even so, mercury acts like a conduit and bridge to your emotions (the moon). So a Cancer mercury person can express their emotions and feelings in naturally. They can also understand others people emotions well to, and even possess natural psychic abilities. The Cancer mercury person will not communicate in an aggressive, vulgar, detached or logical fashion. It will be inconsistent and a bit unpredictable (especially when upset or infuriated) and oftentimes in indirect ways. Sometimes they will withhold what they want to say (especially if they don’t want to hurt someone or don’t know someone well). Sometimes they will lie or exaggerate. At times if they are comfortable with someone they will let it out. The cancer mercury person definitely feels their way through situations and communication.
