TRUE GHOST STORIES - Text Messages from Heaven

My special and very beautiful daughter Amber, 29, passed away two years ago. She left behind two daughters, Karen 6 and Kelly 3 and Bruce, 33, Amber’s husband of 9 years. We were all shattered and I just didn’t know how I was going to live my life without my precious daughter and best friend. I intended to help Bruce with raising the girls as much as possible and be a very hands-on grandmother.

My other daughter, Michelle, 27, withdrew into herself after Amber died, and in frustration I yelled at her, beginning a chain of events that ended with her refusing to speak to me and she withdrew herself all the more.

Time passed by quickly and I moved house to be a little closer to Bruce and the girls. I changed my phone number and thought of sending my new address and number to Michelle, just in case she wanted to reach out to me (which I always prayed she would). But then I thought I’d just call her out of the blue and try to speak with her, so dialled her mobile number. It was no longer in use. She’d changed her number, and I had no idea what it was. Even though I now knew that she’d changed her number, I left her old one in my address book on my phone nonetheless. I hoped and prayed that my youngest daughter would try to contact me somehow. I missed her so much, and missed seeing my little granddaughter Jade.

Three weeks later I heard through a friend of a friend that Michelle and her family had moved house and now lived somewhere in a suburb on the other side of the city. I felt anxious and sad and missed Michelle all the more and it compounded the grief I felt at the loss of Amber. It was like I’d lost both daughters. Overcome with tears, I looked to the heavens and said “Amber, if you are up there, can you please help me with Michelle. I miss her and I love her and I need your help ... please.”

Two days later a text message arrived on my phone. The sender was Michelle. But I didn’t have Michelle’s new number in my phone, and it was a different number to the old one I had stored, so how did my phone know it was Michelle? And how did she get my new number?

There was an attachment with the text message, but I have an older style phone and don’t have the ability to open attachments, so I wondered what it was about. I texted Michelle’s number in reply and said that I couldn’t open the attachment.

Michelle’s reply came quickly. ‘Who is this? I never sent you anything. How did you get my number?’

I replied, a little puzzled, that it was her mother, and that she’d texted me first, not the other way round. Later that day my phone rang three times and each time displayed the caller as Michelle, but when I answered it there was no one there.

Over the next couple of days I received more phantom phone calls and another four messages with attachments from Michelle’s phone. I finally sent her a texted asking her to at least say something if she is going to text me, and to not send blank messages with attachments I couldn’t open.

Michelle texted back that she hadn’t sent anything to me at all and hadn’t been ringing me ... but then went on to ask me how I had been and if I was happy. I replied that I’d be a lot happier if I could see her sometime soon.

The following day the phone rang while I was outside doing some gardening, and I could hear the phone ringing inside. I hurried in, but got to the phone on it’s final ring. It rang again and I could see that the caller was Michelle. I answered as quickly as possible. ‘Hi Mum, how are you?’ she said. ‘Good thanks’ I replied, both relieved and curious. ‘What can I do for you Love?’ I asked her.

It’s not what you can do for me - its the other way round. I got a text message on my phone from you just now saying ‘call me please’.

‘I didn’t send that’ I replied in earnest.

Michelle and I got to talking about the mysterious text messages and phone calls and tried to work out how our phones had our numbers in their memories, even though we’d never exchanged our new phone numbers with each other.

By the end of the conversation we’d arranged for Michelle to visit with my little granddaughter Jade later in the day. Because I’d moved home I gave Michelle my new address, and to our surprise, Michelle said she knew that exact address and described my new house and garden perfectly. As it turned out, she and her husband had tried to buy the very same house when it came on the market 8 months ago, but when they’d put an offer in, they were told that someone else had put in a better offer to the owners and they’d accepted, and now the home was sold and off the market. She didn’t know it then, and I certainly had no idea at the time that had been me that had bought the house out from under them. We marvelled at the coincidence.

When Michelle arrived, after a long embrace and tears all round, we showed each other the text messages and call logs on our phones. I told Michelle about how I’d prayed to Amber to help us reconcile and reconnect with each other, Michelle told me that she’d done a similar type of thing – asking Amber to help her bridge the gap with me as she felt she needed her mother, particularly with Jade being a toddler now, and she’d missed me. She just hadn’t known how to go about it, she’d said.

Michelle and I hugged and cried together in our grief over losing Amber, but we also had tears of awe and happiness that through some miracle of modern technology, Amber been able to bring us back together.

I am still amazed but very happy and relieved that Amber was able to act as a peacemaker for us, and now Michelle and I are reconciled and have a strong and happy relationship thanks to text messages from heaven.
