Light and darkness have no communion.

JOHN 8:12: "I am the Light of the World: he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

1. That ethereal [something that you cannot hold in your hands, but you know that it is there] an agent or matter which makes objects perceptible to the sense of seeing [That you can see], but the particles of which are separately invisible. It is now generally believed that light is a fluid, or real matter, existing independent of other substances, with properties peculiar to itself.
2. Light is Illumination of mind; instruction; knowledge.

As soon as a good thing enters the world, a division becomes necessary.

Light and darkness have no communion; God has divided them, let us not confuse them.

WHAT DOES “CONFUSE” MEAN?

To mingle and blend different things, so that their individual forms or natures cannot be distinguished;

1 THESSALONIANS 5:8: But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], 10 but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)

• Sons of light must not have fellowship with deeds, doctrines, or deceits of darkness.
• The children of the day must be sober, honest, and bold in their Lord’s work, leaving the works of darkness to those who shall dwell in it for ever. Spurgeon
• The Body of Christ should: be disciplined, dividing the light from the darkness, and we should, by separating ourselves from the world, also divide the light from the darkness.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:17-18: Therefore come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing.And I will receive you (18) and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

We must discern between the light and the darkness.

• In judgment,
• in action,
• in hearing,
• in teaching,
• in association,
• we must maintain the distinct separation which the Lord made the first day of creation.

In judgment: We do not judge by the world’s standards, but by the word of God

In action: There should be a difference in lifestyle and culture of the Kingdom of God must be present in our lives.

In hearing: We should not only hear the Word of God, but should live it. [He that has an ear, let him hear]

In teaching: We should teach Jesus and Him crucified and risen, not religion.

In association: We should associate with children of the Light or with the children of the world only to bring them the light.

WHAT IS THIS LIGHT THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT?

Psalm 74:16: The day is Yours, the night also is Yours: You have prepared the light and the sun.

We see in this scripture that there is more than one kind of light.

GENESIS 1:3-5

3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4) And God saw the light, that it was good:

5) and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

GENESIS 1:13 - 20: And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.14) And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [to mark] seasons, days, and years, 15) And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth. And it was so. 16) And God made the two great lights—the greater light (the sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17) And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth, To rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good and He approved it.

• In the two scriptures we see that God made the light and dark and separated the light from the darkness on the first day – then we see God created the sun and moon and stars – He set them to separate the light from the darkness. Here we see the light and dark on the first day and the light and darkness on the third day.

These two light and darkness’ are two separate kinds of light and darkness.

GENESIS 1:26: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion.

• In God’s image is to look like, filled with light - Our spirit man looks like God.
• After his likeness - to operate as God does. Take note that “God said, and there was”.

We are created with the same power to speak life through God’s word.

There are many people who believe in the power of positive thinking. What you think overflows from your lips. This can work if you really believe it, but this is an illegal way of operating. Then you get the “name it claim it and frame it” group. This is spiritually legal if it is in God’s will for your life. Be sure of what God wants you to do because when you move out of God’s will, you are on dangerous ground. Remember the word brings life.

1John 1:5-8: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

The word of God lights the way that we should act, think or feel …and shows us what is error and what is truth.

• It lights up the darkened conscience of man so that we can know when we miss the mark.
• The word does not condemn righteousness or good deeds. It simply shows us that outside of Jesus, the Living word, we are sinful, wicked and unrighteous.

It does not matter if society thinks we have a right to act a certain way.

If the word of God shows it to be wrong, it is wrong.

JOHN 1:1-11: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend [understand] it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

• He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
• The word brings light into our lives.

Proverbs 4:13-22: Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

MATHEW 5:14-17: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, 16 but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. 17 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

Isaiah 60:1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Mathew 5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

2 CORINTHIANS 4:3 -11: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lestthe light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-18: Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.Wherefore, come out from among them, and be you separate, say’s the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, Say’s the Lord Almighty.

JOHN 8:12: "I am the Light of the World: he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

• Light and darkness have no communion; God has divided them from the beginning of creation.
• This is why we fight inside of ourselves to do the right thing.
• We have light and darkness in our flesh but only the light of God in our reborn/renewed spirit man
• Jesus is light - God is light - The Word is light - When we are in the word - We are in Christ
• And we are walking in the light of God.

*The light is the illumination of the word, of the truth, of Jesus, of the love of God;

God is love, Jesus is God’s love, love is light and Jesus is the light of the world

“And God saw the light.” Gen_1:4:

This morning we noticed the goodness of the light, and the Lord’s dividing it from the darkness, we now note the special eye which the Lord had for the light. “God saw the light”-he looked at it, gazed upon it with pleasure, saw that it “was good.”

If the Lord has given you light, he looks on that light with peculiar interest; for not only is it dear to him as his own handiwork, but because it is like himself, for “He is light.”

How wonderful it is to the believer to know that God’s eye is tenderly observant of that work of grace which he has begun in us. He never loses sight of the treasure which he has placed in our earthen vessels. Sometimes we cannot see the light, but God always sees the light, and that is much better than our seeing it. Better for the judge to see my innocence than for me to think I see it. It is very comfortable for me to know that I am one of God’s people-but whether I know it or not, if the Lord knows it, I am still safe.

This is the foundation, “The Lord knows them that are his.” You may be sighing and groaning because of inbred sin, and mourning over your darkness, yet the Lord sees “light” in your heart, for he has put it there, and all the cloudiness and gloom of your soul cannot hide your light from His gracious eye. You may have sunk low in despondency, and despair; but if your soul has any longing towards Christ, and if you are seeking to rest in his finished work, God sees the “light.” He not only sees it, but he also preserves it in you. “I, the Lord, do keep it.”

This is a precious thought to those who, after anxious watching and guarding of themselves, feel their own powerlessness to do so. The light thus preserved by his grace, he will one day develop into the splendour of noonday, and the fullness of glory. The light within is the dawn of the eternal day.

Spurgeon: When God sees the light of His word, The light of Jesus, The light of His Spirit, The light of love burning in our spirit man, He sees Life.

1 JOHN 2:5-11: But whoever keeps His Word, truly in this one the love of God is perfected. By this we know that we are in Him. 6) He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk even as He walked. 7) Brothers, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word which you have heard from the beginning. 8) Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true Light now shines. 9) He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness until now. 10)He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no offense in him. 11) But he who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because darkness has blinded his eyes.

COLOSSIANS 3:16: Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

*We all have the Light of God within us and we should let that light shine into the life of other Christians. Is we are all candles and come together in Christ and burn as one, how bright that light would be.

ROMANS 12:16-21: Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty (snobbish, high-minded,), but readily adjust yourself to everything and give yourselves to humble tasks. Never overestimate yourself or be wise in your own conceits. 17) Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is honest and proper and noble in the sight of everyone. 18) If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19) Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God's wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay , says the Lord. 20) But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head. 21) Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good.

*Overcome the evil of darkness with the good of God’s Light in you.

JOHN 3:19-21: And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices truth comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

EPHESIANS 3:14-21 (Amplified): 18) For this reason [seeing the greatness of this plan by which you are built together in Christ], I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, For Whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. 16 May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. 17 May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts!May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];

19 [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! 20 Now to Him Who, by the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]-- 21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).
