The Paradox of our Time

Updated on February 28, 2011
Source

The dinosaurs become extinct so that we could live,

But we are creating our own horde of dinosaurs-nuclear weapons and armaments- that causes death;

We have leisurely parks and towering malls but denuded forests;

We have water fountains but somewhere around the world there is drought and thirst;

The young ones can't wait to be old to get away from the shadow of their parents,

But the old ones will do everything to regain their youth;

We have modernized science but shorter life span;

We have advanced technology, but less heart-to-heart conversations;

We have high walls and alarm systems but more security threats;

We have sumptuous and elegant dinners, but less nutrition;

We have acquired high degree of education, but lose ourselves through competition and imitation;

We have more acquaintances, but lesser friends and companions;

We have made business relations, but severed family ties;

We buy expensive pets, toys and accessories, but there's more child trafficking and abortion;

We put to trash a day-old leftovers but elsewhere there is hunger and famine;

We put on tailored suits and signature dresses but somewhere an old man is shivering from cold;

We build skyscrapers and breath-taking landscapes, but we have not learned to make the house a home.

We have time for shopping, for party, for movies but we have no time to say thank you and to kneel and pray.

      vocalcoach,

      Thank you dear.As always, your sweet words never fail.I have a huge smile on my face right now.

      I had this article written when I was in college but I couldn't find an avenue for it. Good thing there is HP, I was able to convey my message.

      Yes,that is one of my favorite lines, too.

      Again,thank you.

      I absolutely love this very truthful and touching hub! One of my favorite lines is, "We put on tailored suits and signature dresses but somewhere an old man is shivering from cold". So powerful a message, to be remembered every minute of every day. You...are some kind of wonderful!

      I wouldn't dare to add anything to your hub. It is complete in itself and very personal. What has made me really happy is to discover that this is an old piece of writing that you have saved for so long. Wonderful! If something works for you; it's worth keeping.

      Thank you, Twilight Lawns, for again reading and appreciating my hub.

      Yes, I spent a lot of time thinking about this artcle. Actually I wrote this when I was in my 2nd year of college and that was 9 years ago. I just realized back then the many paradoxes of our present time.I just add some more as the years go by.Feel free to add more ironies that you think should be included in my hub, okay?thank you.
