Using Spiritual Triggers for a Better Life

Updated on May 18, 2010

What are Triggers?

Triggers are things that create a reaction. In the context of a gun a trigger creates a reaction which eventually fires a bullet. In people, the same thing happens.

These can be one time reactions or they can be the result of many years of accumulated events. Many times we focus on the negative triggers and the response that a person has to it. Once people see this, they will either stay away from that trigger or they will use it against you in the future. What this tells you is you can be controlled.

If we want to get at the core of these problems we need to look at spiritual triggers. Start checking off a list of things that you want to fix.

Spirituality and Triggers

In the spirit world sin loves to use these triggers against you. This could be called pushing your buttons.

Sin knows you better than you do yourself, this opens the door for reactions you never thought you could have. Thinking back, I remembered how it would be natural to flip the finger to someone who cut me off on the highway. It seemed like a natural and innocent reaction, it became automatic in these situations. But, was there a deeper problem?

If we really think about it, these little innocent gestures can lead to bigger problems. Knowing how sin works, this can open the door to further actions. How about cutting that person off, or what if that persons reaction is even more drastic.

Put it in the context of cursing, after doing it for a time you do it without even knowing it.

You know as well as I do that big problems always start with a little leak, this is how sin sneaks in the door and you don't even suspect it.

First Step

You first have to identify the things that set you off. Then you have to want to break the cycle, if your happy with sin ruling your life there's no more to be said.

Our world is run by companies tempting the flesh. Sexuality, vanity, pride, overindulgence, greed, fear, all the sins were warned against.

The only way to stop this cycle is to build spiritual triggers that overcome your flesh. You don't have to be overly religious to realize this conflict exists, your conscience guides you in this area.

Now, what do you do?

Build Spiritual Triggers

If you can have triggers that affect you negatively, then why can't you have spiritual triggers that are positive? The answer is you can.

Build Triggers

Since triggers are quick words or events that cause a reaction, you start there.

Make it simple, lets say it's hard for you to forgive. God tells you the opposite forgive, don't carry this burden. So your flesh wants to hold a grudge and your spirit is suppose to forgive, now what?

Hey, it's time to choose, do you want to stick with the way of the world or do you believe there's a better way?

Build a personal trigger, it could be a phrase Don't Hate or God says Forgive, make it simple and personal. When your confronted with this situation immediately start repeating your spiritual trigger and keep doing it until forgiveness smothers unforgiveness. Soon your spirit will overcome the fleshly response.

Build these triggers for each situation that needs repairing.
