Guide: Your Way to Visita Iglesia
Visita Iglesia as a Lenten Season Tradition
Churches in the pictures are few of my photographs of Catholic churches in the Philippines as I was raised by a family with a strong Catholic faith, which I obtained later on and became my form of guidance when I started to live on my own. It is my home away from home. The Philippines has beautiful, old churches built during Spanish Era and are still well maintained as of this time that is perfect for Visita Iglesia.
Visita Iglesia is one of the Filipino Catholic traditions during Lenten Season being practiced by visiting at least Seven Churches. Nowadays, it becomes a form of pilgrimage for the Holy week which also involves a Station of the Cross.
Station of the Cross
In a Church, the stations are typically arranged in intervals around the walls. They start on the West side and move around to the East side. The East side is the side where the sun (S-U-N) rises and it also symbolizes the rising of the Son (S-O-N) of God.
