a Savior has been born to you; Luke 2:8-11
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:8-11
town of David = Bethlehem.
I am a prophecy type, really take a great interest in it. Reason being, it puts the bible’s claim to a very demanding test:
2nd Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,…”
Big claim, that God Himself indirectly wrote the Bible. One of the best avenues to test it, prophecy. If God is really behind it, then every single predictive prophecy is actually no prediction at all, it has to be fulfilled. If God transcends time, He can look ahead and tell us what will happen.
So let’s look at a single prophecy, and see if it came true. There are hundreds over all, let’s just look at one, Micah 5:2:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel...”
If this is indeed about Christ, why is He referred to as ruler over Israel? After all, He was not made king of anything during His life on earth. Rather, accused of blasphemy and put to death. For the king thing, look at another prophecy, yet to be fulfilled. Revelation Ch 20:
“They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.”
So it speaks of Christ reigning, implying kingship. A ruler. Ruler over Israel? Look at where He shows up when He returns, where “home base” will be. Zechariah Ch 14:
"On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. ...... The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name."
So He is predicted to show up in Israel, from which he will reign over the entire earth for 1000 years. Why the 1000 year thing? I’m thinking it only makes sense, to justify and make right a world which was originally made perfect, but has become corrupt. Simply put, make things right again. Fitting.
