    Has America gotten meaner?

Watch and or read about the daily news in any state or city in America. Is this trend of hostility just  a main feature of this generation? Of course, there are some wonderful and kind people around but what do you think of the society we live in today taken as a whole?

No. The media attention mainly focuses on the wrongs of the world. Harmony, peace and beauty are boring stories. Negativity, evil, and bad news wakes people up. It can provoke a response of anger, fear or dread just like movies. The good is always greater than the bad. The news directs the public's attention. It is a form of mind control. In other words, if they had not brought that subject up, you would not be thinking about it. You would be enjoying your life, doing what brings you pleasure. But no, they have to throw some evil stories your way, to pull your mind away from your enjoyment.

It sure seems like it and I don't even get this from the media, I observe this just from daily interactions with strangers. You can smile and say hello, hold a door for someone or let a person behind you check out before you and you would be lucky to get a blank stare, let alone a hello or thank you. Then you have folks that are at the opposite end of the spectrum, asking very personal questions or crossing other boundaries that they themselves would never accept. Maybe where we live (rural, suburb, urban, etc.) has something to do with it? For every wonderful and kind person, there seems to be a multitude of those that I'll just put into the "other" category. Maybe all the "other" ones I see are having a bad day?
