GOD HAS ABSOLUTE POWER: IS SATAN SELF-EXISTING? NO!

Updated on February 3, 2017

GOD THE ABSOLUTE POWER

Who can really define the tremendous, all powerful, unlimited, forceful, majestic, compelling and loving God? No man can! Can Solomon the wisest man in his time period? Can William Shakespeare of English literature? Can Confucius, the Chinese philosopher or any writer in the Old Testament or New Testament? I turn to the dictionary for the description of "absolute".

The Concise English Dictionary

Absolute means independent, unlimited, under no restraint; self-existent; arbitrary, despotic; highly accomplished, perfect; unconditioned:Moses, the historian in the Book of Genesis describes the beginning of almost everything, the beginning of the universe, the creation of life, sabbath, death, marriage, sin, redemption and sacrifice. God has no equal. He is absolute!

GOD THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE

The Lord God has absolute power over all things in heaven and on earth. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) He completed his creation in six days and rested and blessed the seventh day after the creation of "Man"..

In the book of Genesis Chapter 1:27, God created male and and female. "And God bless them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living things that moveth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:28).

In the beginning God created Adam and then Eve. He said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply." From one seed, the world has expanded to 6.7 billion inhabitants around the world. The Chinese have the largest population in the world at 1.3 billion while the Indians are fast catching up at 1.14 billion.

GOD FORMULATED LAW

God forbade Adam to eat the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden advising him that in the day that he ate he would surely die.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by listening to the deceitful serpent and were cast out of the garden of Eden. God's commandments are eternal and passed down from generation to generation. If we disobeyed God we would be also treated like Adam and Eve.

CREATION OF ANGELS

Angels were created before the creation of the world. They were created to serve the Lord around the throne (Rev. 5:11-13) and sent as mighty messengers giving warning to the chosen and saving the chosen (Gen 19:12-22). They fight against Satan and help the believers (Rev 12:7,8; Dan 10:21). Angels also deliver the saints from dangers (Acts 5:17-20; 12:6-11).

Angels may commit sin. 2 Peter 2:4 states: "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and deliver them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment;"

SATAN THE FALLEN ANGEL CAST OUT

It is very clear that Revelation 12:9 states the great dragon, that old serpent who deceived Adam and Eve and Satan is the same evil spirit which deceives the whole world.

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels cast out with him" (Rev 12:9).

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (Mt 25:41)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment. (II Pet 2:4).

Another example is mentioned in Genesis 3:1 where the serpent beguiled the woman Eve. Ezekiel 28:13-15 tells us of Satan, an anointed Cherub once dwelt in the Garden of Eden and was expelled from heaven because of iniquity. Futhermore, Isaiah 14:13,14 describes what he said in his heart "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: ... I will be like the most High."

Lucifer also referred to Satan. " As a symbolic representation of the king of Babylon in his pride, splendor and fall ... invests Satan who at head of this present world-system, is the real though invisible power behind the successive world rulers of Tyre, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome."

GOD THE DESTROYER OF THE WICKED

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha because the people were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly (Gen. 13:13). Sodom and Gomorrha were cities of sin: "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." (Jude 7).

About six hundred thousand men left Egypt in the Exodus (Exodus 12:37). of that number, only Caleb and Joshua were the only adult males to enter the land of Canaan (Num. 14:30).

In modern times, God uses the earthquakes, the tornadoes and eruptions of the volcano to destroy the ungodly who heeded not His voice to turn to the Lord.

CONCLUSION: GOD IS SELF-EXISTING

God is absolute and is self-existing! He created everything under the sun, the heaven and earth, the light, the sun, moon and stars, the fish and fowl, the cattle and beasts. Last of all, God created man in the image of God (Genesis chapter 1). God instituted the first sabbath, blessed the day and sanctified it. He commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil lest he should die. He saw that Adam needed a mate to help him, so God created Eve and so instituted marriage for them.

1. All creatures have their origin, and the origin of all origins is God. "I AM THAT I AM" (Ex 3:14).

2. He has no beginning of days. He is "without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; (Heb. 7:3).

3. I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God (Isa 44:6).

4. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending (Rev 1:8).

The Almighty God has absolute power on earth and in heaven. It is wrtten in Isaiah 66:1 and Acts 7:49: "Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool:"

Praise the Lord God! The Lord, our God has absolute power in heaven and on earth.

SATAN is SELF-EXISTENT

TRUE OR FALSE?

I was asked to answer the question that Satan's origin was self-existent by a member who heard about the theory. Is the claim true or has it any merit? The writer had considered the theory for over a decade and had come to the conclusion:

THE WRITER WROTE: "I have reconsidered the origin of Satan and maintained that Satan was self-existent (but is not eternal) for the following reasons:"

STATEMENT 1. To restore God's absolute holiness: As soon as one asks: "Where does an evil spirit come from?", the immediate instinct is to realize that the Holy Spirit and the evil spirit can never come from the same source! The Holy Spirit, who is absolutely good, is incapable of transforming to an evil spirit that is wholly wicked; neither would the appearance of Satan have anything to do with God.

However, according to the traditional view of Satan's origin, all things came from one source, that is the true God, the Creator. In other words, the most holy true God is also the source of all things and all spirits, including the evil spirit, Satan and lies, etc. This is contrary to "in God is no darkness at all" (1 Jn 1: 5).

The only way to resolve this issue is to exclude Satan's existence outside of God's creation, to completely separate him from God.

MY ANSWER

True. The Holy Spirit and the evil spirit can not come from the same source. However, in this case, Satan was created an anointed cherub and perfect from the day that he was created, till iniquity was found in him. (Ezekiel 28:14,15).

  • God is not the source of the evil spirit.
  • "The Lord is good (Ps 100:5; 1 Chr 16:34; Ezra 3:11;
  • Ps 106:1; Jer 33:11).

* Satan was created good but became evil (Ezekiel 28:17).

* God allows freedom of choice to choose good or evil.

* "to refuse the evil, and choose the good" (Isaiah 7:15,16).

STATEMENT 2. To restore God's absolute love for His children:

The Lord said: "They hated Me without a cause", "He who hates Me hates My Father also", "It hated Me before it hated you", "Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you" (Jn 15: 18~25); therefore, the Satan's hatred towards God's children comes from his own accord. It is inevitable for the saints to meet with Satan's attack (for they no longer are of Satan); the encounter between the saints and Satan is a "war" (initiated by Satan) and it is erroneous to say "God tries the saints through Satan who hates even God Himself" (Satan is passive). If we think about it, since Satan hates God, the Father, how would he then listen to God? The Bible clearly records that Satan is God's enemy, so why would God seek out His enemy to try His own children whom He has purchased with His precious blood through much hardship? Our wholly good God would ever use His enemy who is wholly evil and hates God to fulfill His great love for His children! On the contrary, our loving Father has sacrificed His life to deliver His children from the dominion of Satan and has protected them from the harm of the evil one with His precious blood!

MY ANSWER:

True. Christians are no longer of Satan.

1. Satan is a "war" (initiated by Satan). "The devil, as a roaring lion, walking about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).

* God does not tempt anyone: "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed (James 1:13-14).

False. "God tries the saints through Satan.

True. God allows Satan to try His Children (Job 1:12).

STATEMENT 3. To restore the everlasting oneness of God and His infinite all-knowing and all-powerful nature:

The self-existence of Satan does not mean he is on an equal footing with God (Dualism); it does not mean he is everlasting either! If people were to say things, such as, "Before the creation, God would have known that tonight this light bulb would blow" to demarcate the all-knowing and all-powerful nature of God, this is indeed trivializing God, which is utterly meaningless! The infinite all-knowing and all-powerful nature of God relates to the spiritual level: He can destroy even Satan who is self-existent (one and a half monism) and cast him into the lake of fire! Imagine, if the Creator only overcomes the created things that sinned, would He need to be "all-knowing" and "all-powerful"?

A three year old child can easily destroy the things he created, is that not so? Try and compare "God had overcome the angel who sinned (or the created thing that sinned)" with "God had overcome Satan who was self-existent", which one will manifest better God's absolute all-knowingness and all-powerfulness?

As for the unparalleled oneness of God, that too has been displayed throughout from the beginning with the creation, to the end when His enemies are destroyed (Isa 41: 25~26; 46: 9~11; 1 Cor 15: 24~26; Rev 20: 10~15).

MY ANSWER

False. Satan is self-existent.

True. God has no co-existing partner.

Thou are God alone (Ps 86:10; Isaiah 37:16; Ps 86:10)* God is indeed, "all-knowing" and "all-powerful".

* God is omniscient - God knoweth all things (1 Jn. 3:20)

* Because the world is made up of many people and everyone has a different personality, God has to deal with multiple personalities and He is "all knowing" and "all powerful".

* When Jesus died on the cross, God has made it possible for the living to obtain salvation.

STATEMENT 4. To explain God's plan of creation: God prepared Christ before the creation for the purpose of destroying the works of Satan (1 Jn 3:8).

It was evident that Satan's works existed before the creation, which made it unlikely that his existence had any relation to the things created by God; he merely existed by himself. Furthermore, all things were created through and for the Lord; thus, creation was closely related to the destruction of Satan. The moment God "called out light from darkness", He had overcome Satan, the ruler of darkness! And when he is thrown into the lake of fire, the former creation will have completed her duty and will pass away. Hence, a new heaven and a new earth, where death is no more, will come down from heaven!

MY ANSWER

True. Satan's works existed before the creation.

* The moment God "called out light from darkness", He had overcome Satan for he was cast out from heaven.

* "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8)".

* "Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory (Isaiah 43:7)".

The former creation has not yet been completed. Judgment still has to come for all creation.

STATEMENT 5. To clarify the concept of faith:

Since the Lord taught us to pray for "His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven", people cannot hold that ‘all things that happen on earth are according to the will of God' because if everything, whether good or bad, happens out of the will of God, there would be no need for us to ask for God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven! In addition to that, since it is ‘in the end' that God claims victory over Satan, people cannot claim that Satan is completely controlled by God ‘at the present, for why would God need to combat and destroy Satan if he were already under God's control?

MY ANSWER

True. Not all things that happen on earth are according to the will of God.

* God already had victory over Satan when Jesus died on the cross for our sins when He opened a way for human beings to have salvation.

* "Death is swallowed up in victory (1 Cor 15:54).

God also was victorious when He banished Satan from Heaven. This is before creation.

* Final judgment will be pronounced when Jesus returns on the Judgment Day (Mt 25: 31-46).

STATEMENT 6. To sow the confidence of victory and point out the way to salvation:

Although Satan is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, God had overcome him through His creation. And the Lord Jesus also rendered powerless the devil - who holds the power of death, and He is now by the right hand of God the Father, interceding eternally for us. The elect therefore do not need to worry about Satan's attack but only need to follow closely the Ark of the Covenant and they will surely become more than conquerors, living a peaceful and joyful life (Rom 8: 37).

MY ANSWER

True. Satan is powerless over the power of death.

* "All power is given unto me (Jesus) in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18).

*The elect do not need to worry about Satan's attack if they trust completely on the Lord.."Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: (Isa 12:2).

STATEMENT 7. To draw clearly the line between God and Satan; holiness and filthiness:

Before creation, God had resolved to destroy the works of Satan (1 Jn 3: 8). However, the thought of Christianity in general makes it look as if God and Satan are working closing together; that God often needs to "use" Satan to finish this divine work (grace of salvation) or that divine work (to try the believers). As well, it is as though God has never rejected any of Satan's requests: Just look at the world, all that the men do and think everyday is evil. If this is measured by the standard "unless God willing, Satan will accomplish nothing", God must have allowed Satan over "a million times" a day to go entice the whole world to think evil and act evil! This has greatly violated the truth that says "what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness; what communion has light with darkness; and what accord has Christ with Belial (nickname of Satan).

MY ANSWER

False. God often needs to "use" Satan to finish the divine work. God does not need anyone to help him finish the divine work. God has sent Jesus Christ to finish the plan of salvation.

True. "unless God willing, Satan will accomplish nothing".

* Jesus Christ's dying on the cross accomplishes the job. The rest is left to the elect to obey His will and repudiate Satan.

* All mankind have freedom of choice, to choose what they wish to do.

* Satan also has to wait until Judgment Day before being cast unto eternal fire.

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the Devil, and Satan, (Rev 12:9).

"the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone ... shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever (Rev 20:10).

It could be "a million times" a day Satan is tempting the people. Remember, it is Satan who initiates the temptation.

* "what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness, what communion has light with darkness; and what accord has Christ with Belial (nickname of Satan)." None.

No violation at all. People can choose right from wrong. If they choose righteousness, they have fellowship with God. However, if their choice is lawlessness, God would be far from them.

CONCLUSION

The author of the article (I was given to comment) depends mostly on logic to voice his opinions rather than on faith in the almighty God. If he believes in the infallibility of the Bible, he could not believe in the origin of self-existence of Satan.

Beware of the subtility of Satan and fall into the enticement of the cunningness of the great devil. Be humble and trust in God and not trust in your own ego and pride for pride comes before a fall. May the Lord preserve us to the end.

May God open all our eyes to the truth.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Ti 3:16).
