George st pierre vs Bj penn 2
A hugely anticipated fight as the first one was a bit controversial as gsp won via split decision but only after bj penn had seemingly handed him a 2-3 round beating,So this was payback and a huge fight between two of the top pound for pounders in the world.Unfortunately for Bj penn he hadn't counted on gsp coming into this in the best shape of his life. The size difference was unfortunatley just a bit too much as gsp is a ripped 170lbs and i believe Bj came into this at about 160ish Gsp was just too strong for him and it wore him down as the fight went deeper.Bj penn was beaten up both on the floor and on the feet until after four rounds bj's corner through in the towel.Next up for gsp is another candidate for this hub.gsp vs thiago alves.
Sanchez vs Guida
Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida
WOW.That's all i can say about this fight that happened at the ultimate fighter 9 finale. These guys had been talking crap for days and as usual Clay came bouncing out all hyper and got in the octagon then Diego came out all intense as ever and started staring out Clay before he even got in the ring. Then they just started talking crap to each other in the octagon. The stare down was crazy intense and needed four stewards to keep them apart. Then they were off, both of them run to the centre of the cage and just started throwing down, punches galore but Clay came off worse and they separated with clay all bloodied up then from there on in it was just a vicious war with knees elbows and all sorts included. If you haven't seen this fight, get the tape and watch it,fight of the year contender.
Lyoto Machida vs thiago silva
This one is on the list because everybody was waiting to see what happened when Machida came up against an undefeated aggressive striker, well the answer was definitive, what happens is thiago keeps coming forward and either getting thrown to one side or punched in the face for his trouble which all ends up in Machida punching Silva unconscious right on the bell at the end of the first round leaving nobody in any doubt that Machida is as devastating as people have been saying.
Frankie edgar vs sean sherk
This may be seen as a bit of an odd one as it wasn't a tremendously exciting fight but its one of my faves because sean sherk has always been a devastating force in the lightweight division yet this proves that if you are confident and come in with a good game plan you can win against anybody on your night.Edgar really impressed by coming in with a solid game plan and sticking to it,Hit and move as i like to call it,Sherk tried to stand and trade punches but is always going to be at a disadvantage because of his reach,In short i don't think sherk is a force anymore because he always tries to stand when his strength is wrestling and he is one of the worlds best when he sticks to that, but in Edgar we may have a top contender
Lyoto Machida vs Rashad Evans
Well i should of had money on this as i always knew that evans would not have the skills to figure out Machida, Don't get me wrong i thought Rashad might of been able to clip him as he has devastating speed in his hands but unfortunately for him Machida is just as quick at getting out of harms way.Not to mention that Machidas accuracy is second only to Anderson Silvas. They started out dancing around each other and it took a good minute before anybody engaged and at least near the end of the first round till Machida got hit,But then midway through the second round Rashad got dropped and machida jumped him,Rashad got back to his feet but couldn't dodge all of the accurate punches and was knocked unconscious giving his crown to the deserved Lyoto Machida.
More to be added
More fights to be added as we go through the year.A few no doubt from ufc 100 alone.Watch this space
Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin
Don't get me wrong i don't think anybody expected Griffin to win but we at least expected him to rough up the middleweight champ a little bit due to his big heart and huge frame, well weren't we wrong, Forrest came out strong but took a punch that dropped him early on and he never really recovered, When he ran forward throwing punches with abandonment it was only going to end one way really and that was with Silva dodging and diving as he stepped back then unleashed a straight right jab that Griffin ran onto which dropped him for a third time but Griffin was done as he raised his arms limply to say he had had enough,The ref jumped in,Anderson Silva was back to his best.
