Classy Manny Pacquiao

Updated on April 24, 2012

The world saw the rise of a humble bakery helper to the dizzying summit of boxing glory. Manny Pacquiao amazed boxing fans and aficionados as he scored a riveting 12 round unanimous win over his heftier and bigger opponent Antonio Margarito to add another world title, which is, the WBC Super Welterweight, to his astounding growing list of accomplishments. The win cemented his status as one of the best boxers of all-time and a possible win over Floyd Mayweather may install him as the greatest ever. To date, Pacquiao is the only fighter to bagged world titles in as many weight categories.

He pounded Margarito all throughout the match with peppery jabs and combinations. His power punches were all over the place and they are not only fast but are also packed with stings that pummeled the Mexican black and blue. His footwork was at its finest, as you can see Pacquiao gallantly eluded punches coming from Margarito and Pacquiao’s speed kept his opponent out of his comfort zone.

Phenomenal as it is, Pacquiao is a consummate fighter who loved non-stop mano y mano action whilst using his wit and grit to the hilt. Maturity was also seen on Pacquiao, as he carried Margarito through the last round. Pacquiao had all the opportunity to knock out Margarito, but he opted not. The badly beaten Margarito was ripe for the knock out from the 10th round down to the 12th, but Pacquiao gallantly hold his guard and didn’t meted out anymore punishments on his foe, which is a show of rare classic act in front of millions of fans worldwide. The referee could had stopped the fight since Margarito is losing by a wide margin and sustained heavy beating already. Margarito’s face had swelled and one powerful surge by Pacquiao could had given him more ordeal and knocking him out in the canvass seemed imminent.

Pacquiao had grown into a lethal boxer with wide array of weapons on his war chest. Though he can be fierce he is a compassionate warrior, when the need for this arises. He is also very capable of showing enormous sportsmanship on the boxing ring. A truly gentleman gladiator, Pacquiao showed again that brute force is not only the ingredient in obtaining nods, accolades, praises and recognitions. Many boxing experts are not only fascinated with Pacquiao’s greatness in boxing but they are also awed with the rare character he had on the boxing ring.
