Deion Sanders - American Football Star

Former NFL cornerback and MLB outfielder, Deion Luwynn Sanders was born in Fort Myers, Florida, on August 9, 1967. Sanders is now a commentator for the NFL Network.

During his time in the National Football League, Deion Sanders was given the nickname "Neon Deion". Sanders was listed as weighing nearly 200lbs and standing over 6' tall.

During his days as a college student at Florida State University, Deion Sanders had an excellent career in both baseball and American football.

NFL - one of the greatest NFL athletes

Deion Sanders is considered to be one of the best athletes of the NFL as well as being one of the most extraordinary cover cornerbacks to ever grace a professional football field. Deion Sanders was a player for many well-known NFL teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, the Atlanta Falcons, the Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Redskins. He won the Super Bowl when he was a player for both the Dallas Cowboys as well as when he played for the San Francisco 49ers.

Deion Sanders also dabbled in Major League Baseball, playing for the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants as well as the Cincinnati Reds.  Not just an American Football great!

American Football and Prime Time

Many fans of the NFL most remember Deion Sanders sporting his famous bandana as he high-stepped into the end zone for his touchdown celebration. Fans also recall Sanders as one the most outspoken and visible players on the football field.

In 1995, Deion Sanders used his alternate personality, "Prime Time", as a marketing strategy and signed a $35 million dollar contract with he Dallas Cowboys. The contract was for seven years and included a signing bonus that was just under $13 million. At one time, Deion Sanders was the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.

Deion Sanders played in the NFL for fourteen years, during that time he was a perennial All-Pro player and a pass defender that was one of the most feared to ever play the sport. Sanders was the second fastest player in the National Football League, running the forty-yard dash in 4.18.

An NFL Career

During his NFL career, Deion Sanders intercepted 52 passes for more than 1,330 yards, an average of more than 25 yards for each return. He was responsible for the recovery of 4 fumbles for 15 yards, returning 155 kickoffs for more than 3,500 yards, 212 punt returns gaining almost 2,200 yards as well as catching 60 passes for more than 780 yards.

Deion Sanders gained more than 7,800 all-purpose yards and he scored an amazing 22 touchdowns as well as 1 fumble recovery, 3 receiving, 3 kickoff returns, 6 punt returns and 9 interceptions.

He set the NFL record with nineteen defensive and return touchdowns. Deion Sanders was a Pro Bowler from 1991-1994 and 1996-1999. In 1994, Deion Sanders was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

In 2006, Deion Sanders became part owner of a team in the Arena Football League in Austin, Texas. The team is called the Austin Wranglers.

Sanders is also employed by the NFL Network where he appears on the shows NFL Total Access and NFL GameDay. Currently, Deion Sanders and his wife Pilar Biggers star in their on reality series, Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love.
