What is skateboard?

I think most of us know this stuff. Skateboard is a board with wheels that is ridden in a standing or crouching position and propelled by foot. Another meaning of skateboard is a piece of wood in the shape of a surfboard with four wheels attached to this board with a single person rides the skateboard and guiding the movement with his feet. Skateboard itself contain three parts, like:

  • The deck is the actual board. It has special material like maple ply are dyed to create various different color. The size of this deck is about 32 inches (81.3 cm) long, 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) thick.
  • The truck is a component usually made of metal that holds the wheels to the deck. It use two metal, usually made by aluminum alloy which connect to the wheels and deck.
  • Skateboard wheels. It usually made of polyurethane The smaller size is 48–54 mm and the larger size is 54–85 mm.

Other parts are Grip tape, Bearings, and Hardware. Since skateboards first came into widespread use in the 1960s. From the history of skateboard, the first prototypes was used simple wooden boards with roller-skate wheels attached. Skateboards were mass produced and sold in the whole of United States in the mid-1980s. But now we can find electric skateboard by using an electric battery. But technology like this can reduce the "soul" and the true meaning of skateboard.

How do we use skateboard? It looks so simple, just pushing with one foot while the other remains on the board. But personally, I can’t ride the skateboard like others who expert in use this. I just amazed with someone who can play this board very well. They use beautiful style, even looks difficult to be practiced by common people. If we talk about style, actually there are various styles of riding a skateboard. Like: Freestyle Skateboarding, Vertical Skateboarding, Transition Skateboarding, Street Skateboarding, Park Skateboarding, Cruising, Technical Flatground Skateboarding, Downhill Skateboarding, Big Air Skateboarding.

The world’s largest Skateboard

A new sensation has been created by Joe Ciaglia. This is the world’s largest skateboard. The skateboard was brought by the California skateparks to Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania, the largest skateboard in the world like a conventional skateboard but has the capacity to accommodate a dozen people together. One afternoon, campers and staff took the enormous skateboard out for a ride. One of the craziest things is Joe Ciaglia as the California Skateparks owner decided to take his creation for a solo ride.

Joe said that he can build whatever you dream up, even it sound ridiculous, like the world’s largest skateboard. This skateboard is 12.5-times bigger than common deck to set a Guinness Book of World’s Record. With the simple purpose to get a little fun on the skateboard and get some runs in. So he and the team tested it out on a couple of hills earlier. The result is they had some success that looks so much fun. Until they found a bigger hill and the skateboard ran faster. The board was made entirely of real skateboard parts except for the wheels. From the video we can see as 10 men take it for a test run. But the biggest skateboard ride will end on a pleasant taste. Please enjoy the video below!
