Top 5 best ODI innings of Sachin Tendulkar

Updated on October 12, 2013

I know choosing top 5 ODI innings of the greatest ever batsman Sachin Tendulkar is the most difficult thing for every cricket fan. It may receive criticism from all ends. Because he has so many great knocks in ODI format. Choosing just 5 ODI knocks from them is very difficult. But this top 5 knocks has been purely based on my view. These 5 knocks in ODi by Sachin Tendulkar is thoroughly enjoyed not only by me but most of the cricketing fans.

I made cautious effort in choosing this top 5 ODI innings of the master. If I have missed any of your favorite knocks, I would like to apologize for it.

I will start from the bottom of the list.

Sachin Tendulkar 134 against Australia Video

5) 134 off 131 balls vs Australia in Sharjah

This innings of the little master is the 5th in my list. Sachin Tendulkar made 134 off 131 balls against Australia in the Final of Coco-Cola cup 1998. This knock is a special one, because the master had made this knock on his 25th birthday. Australia set a target of 273. This innings was studded with some classy shots with 12 fours and 3 maximums. The Aussie captain Steve Waugh said “It was one of the greatest innings I have ever seen. There is no shame being beaten by such a great player, Sachin is perhaps only next to the Don.”

4) 140 off 101 balls vs Kenya at Bristol 1999

This knock came during the 1999 World Cup in England. This innings is one of the emotional innings from the master. The reason is Sachin's father passed away and Sachin Tendulkar went back to home from England and then returned back to the squad after that tragedy. This was a crucial encounter for India against Kenya. Sachin Tendulkar scored 140 runs off just 101 balls with 16 fours and 3 sixes. This innings ensured India's place in super six stage. Sachin Tendulkar at the post match presentation said “This one’s for you dad”.

3) 143 off 131 balls vs Australia in Sharjah 1998

Sachin domianted every aussie bowler in this match. This knock is described as Desert Storm innings. Sachin's knock helped India to enter into the finals of the Coco-Cola cup 1998. Sachin scored 143 off just 131 balls with 9 fours and 5 maximums. Shane Warne once in an interview, when asked about that desert storm innings said “I’ll be going to bed having nightmares of Sachin just running down the wicket and belting me back over the head for six. He was unstoppable. I don’t think anyone, apart from Don Bradman, is in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar. He is just an amazing player.”

2) 175 off 141 balls vs Australia at Hyderabad 2009

This innings is one of the best innings while chasing. But the sad part is that India lost that match by 3 runs. Australia set 351 as a target for India. India needed the openers to fire. Sehwag got out after scoring 38 runs. But it was Sachin Tendulkar who took India close to the target. Sachin crossed 17000 ODI runs during this knock. Then he scored his 45th ODI ton. India looked comfortable in chasing this target. Sachin got out when India need 19 runs of just 17 balls. He scored 175 runs from just 141 balls with 19 fours and four sixes. Steve Waugh after this knock said “The last time I watched Sachin was last week when he was on his way to a spectacular 175 and once again I felt that I was watching a player who comes but once in a century. It can be said that he is the Bradman of our times and I do feel privileged to have played a lot of cricket against him”

1) 200 off 147 balls vs South Africa at Gwalior 2010

Sachin Tenulkar's 200 tops of list. This innings, no doubt, is the historical innings in cricket. Ravis Shastri at commentary box described as “First man in the Planet to reach 200 and its the Superman from India Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar”. This innings from Sachin Tendulkar came gainst South Africa which was played at Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Gwalior on 24th February 2010. Sachin Scored 200 and remained not out from just 147 balls with 25 fours and 3 sixes. And this record of highest individual score in ODI innings has been broken by sehwag. But nevertheless Sachin Tenulkar is the first man in the planet to reach 200.

Sachin Tendulkar has been declared as man of the match in all these innings. And this is the top 5 ODI innings of Sachin Tendulkar from my view. Apart from this there are so many knocks. I would like to mention a few of them. 98 off 75 balls against Pakistan in Centurion in 2003 World cup. His 82 against New Zealand in Auckland is one of the best innings. This 82 came of just 49 balls. Sachin opened the innings for the first time in ODI. Sachin's 186 off 150 balls is a classic innings.India set a target of 377 runs in that match for New Zealand. And there are so many innings and the list goes on.

I once again apologize if I missed anything which may be your favorite. You can comment about the favorite knock of the master which I may have missed. Thanks for reading this article. Hope you enjoyed this article.
