Is LeBron James or Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player of all time? That is the question that is being constantly thrown around in the media and in turn to all of us at home. For me the answer is quite simple and I will tell you why.

Now the Jordan and Lebron debate is a constant debate in the media, with topics such as can Lebron win as many M.V.P's as Jordan can Lebron win as many championships as Jordan. Let's also keep in mind that we are talking about two players that play different positions and that play in different era's. However since it is such a great topic we will debate it anyway!

Journalists and people in the media have differing opinions on this matter, they talk about the fact that Lebron has won more MVP's at this stage of his career compared to Jordan with 2 to LeBron and 1 to Jordan, how LeBron's rebounding and assists totals are better than Jordan's and how some are stating that he is a better leader than Michael Jordan.

The Debate:

Now in all honesty should we really compare Michael Jordan and Lebron James? It will never be settled, you could maybe compare Jordan to Bryant because they played against each other even though it was not in there primes but they played against each other none the less and they blow played there position as shooting guard. With Jordan and Lebron they play shooting guard and small forward respectfully and they did not play against one another while also competing in different eras. But seeing as it is Lebron and and MJ how can we not compare !

Here we have 2 of the greatest players in there respective eras, anyone who has watched a fair bit of NBA can see how Lebron and MJ dominate/dominated the game of basketball. Before Lebron even came into the NBA, Jordan was the most dominant player in NBA history besides maybe Wilt Chamberlain, and Jordan took out every award there was to win. He did everything there was to be won in the game of basketball. Now we might say that Jordan has 6 championships and Lebron only has 1, but at the age of 28 (which lebron is now) Jordan only had 1 championship as well which he added another one a couple months later which looks like Lebron could be doing a similar thing in this years playoffs. Now I'm not saying that Lebron is going to get every award that Jordan did, but he just might, Lebron is in his prime and is coming hard after Jordan's throne. Let's have a closer look at there stats:

Who will be greater?

Michael Jordan:

PPG: 30.1 RPG: 6.2 APG: 5.3 FG%: 49.7 3P%: 32.7 FT% 83.5 BPG 0.8 SPG: 2.3

6 time NBA champion: 5 time MVP: 10 time scoring champion: 3 times steals leader: 3 times minutes leader: 14 time all star: 3 time all star MVP: 6 time finals MVP: 1 time defensive player of the year: 10 time NBA All First team: 1 time NBA All 2nd team: 9 time All defensive 1st team: NBA 1st all rookie team: NBA rookie of the year: 2 time NBA slam dunk champion:

Lebron James:

PPG: 27.6 RPG: 7.3 APG: 6.9 FG%: 49 3P%: 33.7 FT% 74.7 BPG 0.8 SPG: 1.7

1 time NBA champion: 3 time MVP: NBA rookie of the year: 1 time scoring champion: 2 time all star MVP: 9 time all star: 6 time all NBA first team: 2 time all NBA 2nd team: 4 time all defensive 1st team: NBA all rookie team:

Now as you can see those achievements by Jordan are unbelievable and them being matched doesn't seem possible, but if anyone is going to get close it is Lebron, he is only 28 and probably has 7-8 years left in him, but only time will tell.

Clutch play and Killer Instinct

This here in my mind is where Jordan excels over Lebron James. Jordan in his career hit multiple clutch shot after clutch shots whereas in his career Lebron has become a bunny in the spotlight kind of moments, he has tended to pass to teammates to score instead of taking it more upon himself. A classic case of this was the 2011 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks when they constantly trash talked Lebron and he disappeared to an extent in the 4th quarter of those games.

Jordan never had those issues, he thrived on the moment and the occasion, it was very rare to see Jordan fail to hit a clutch shot or make a clutch play. Lebron however is getting better at these moments such as his game against the Boston Celtics in the 2012 NBA Conference Finals in Game 6 where he carried the heat to victory. But Lebron has a long way to go before he can surpass Jordan in this category.

Final view

Not only did Jordan accomplish all this, but he did this all with the same team, LeBron James tried to do it as "the man" in Cleveland but cannot do it, instead he has gone to Miami to team up with Dwanye Wade and Chris Bosh. Now don't get me wrong this is a very smart move and down the track it could make the Miami Heat unstoppable with ironicly the Chicago Bulls led my Derrick Rose as its main rival. But Jordan did not team up with Magic Johnson at the Los Angeles Lakers to win multiple titles, he did it with the players he was given around him. True, Lebron did not have a Scottie Pippen calibre player on his side at Cleveland, but that could of happened down the track.

Jordan's drive, will to win was superior to anyone else and at this present time it is still miles ahead of Lebron. Jordan would never allow his team to lose an NBA finals series, he would do whatever he took to win, and Lebron is not quite in that zone just yet.

But the plain fact is this, no one EVER dominated the game of basketball like Michael Jordan, Jordan could the majority of the time do what he wanted when he wanted. So the public is likely to feel that LeBron James has a long way to go to be compared to Michael Jordan, LeBron is already a great player and will likely go down as a hall of famer, but to be compared to Jordan already is wrong, if LeBron can achieve those stats that I mentioned (especially with the addition of championships and M.V.P's) along with more killer instinct and clutch plays that will forever stay in our memories above then maybe we will have a challenger to Jordan as the great basketball player of all time.

MJ didn't leave his team, no.....But MJ never singlehandedly brought his team to the finals...Couldn't do it and couldn't get there till Pippen and company arrived...Just saying

I like reading so many ideas comparing LJ an MJ, oviously, they have both in common letter "J" as they have achieved awards like season mvp, finals MVP, Olympics Championship ring and other stats base on their stats but to go further if we are talking about to tell who is better than? its unfair.... Just think about it, Let LJ to finished his Career and then maybe you can.... Just watch and see..

Lebron has the ability to take over a game just as easy maybe easier than jordan lebron is the best all around player in the nba ever jordan can't put a flame to his defense, rebounding, assist and his ability to take it to the whole

Lebron is a superstar no doubt, Jordan had that wow factor with every play he made, I don't think anyone will ever be able to match that

I agree Lebron is awesome, but he'll never be able to match the sort of impact that Jordan had on the NBA.

Air Jordan is easily the best ever. However Lebron is an amazing talent.
