I think there are a lot of countries that don't enjoy playing football the same as what we do. It's probably because they have their own game that they enjoy more - I know that Australians aren't really so interested in 'soccer' because they have their own Aussie rules football.

The USA is a relative newcomer when it comes to playing ball sports so they haven't yet 'caught up' with the older countries -mainly European - who have been playing football (ok soccer) for centuries. It'll take a few more centuries before Americans get a true taste for football!

Americans are also quite insular when it comes to their own ball sports - they like to do their own thing and don't much care for 'foreign' imports!

But football is growing. All it needs is a few more role model heroes like Dempsey.Friedel and others and a decent league system to evolve and plenty more sports fans will take to it.

I totally agree, I hope it comes a little sooner than a few centuries, though, before Americans fully appreciate football. I love the Olympics and all, but there really is nothing that compares to the World Cup.

I think that lack of enthusiasm is onty found in the USA, the game is popular in just about all the other countries in the two coninents.
