I've only been to salt lake the atmosphere is pretty cool in there
Begin looking at your own state parks. They are normally very economical, provide bathrooms, often showers. Most have tent sites and many have a few spaces for travel trailers.
Learn about the history and landmarks of your state as well.
I have camped in about 9-10 states, and I can say, that I don't regret any of the state parks.
I think some park or hunts or lake side is the best place other wise if you have a farm house so you can go there for family holidays.
I can not answer this question for the states, but here in the UK there are many great places to camp. National parks are great, namely the New Forest as you get great wildlife as well as activities to do. There is also North Wales and Scotland if you like the hills and Cornwall for surfing.
