In India, cricket is like national game. When there is match betwen India and pakistan it becomes like war situation. Cricketers becomes God in India. Sachin Tendulkar will get Bharatratna award(Most highest award of India), as he cracked all records whichever was incredible. But India's national game is Hockey, but there is no money and glamour. So new generation likes only cricket.

If you like the sport of cricket, watching/playing/or both, then it is, if you don't, then it isn't, there can be no definitive answer.

In South Asia Cricket is the most popular sport. normally India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh represent major part in International cricket and they won World cup for several times.
So much more peoples are addicted to this sport and popularity is automatically increase due to that reason.

I agree with Paree nothing beats india and Pakistan cricket match, but the biggest cricket rivalry is Ashes played between England and Australia. Cricket World cup 2011 is right around the corner!

More number of people follow cricket. Popularity is significantly increasing with the development of shorter versions of the game.

With the introduction of T20, the popularity is definitely going up. plus the game has been commercialized and glamorized. few talk about it being the 2nd most popular sport, although i seriously doubt it. (Its a shame that it still isn't a part of olympics)
