I'm tired of Merrell boots for winter wear and hiking. Any recommendations for light and waterproof?
Merrell are nice, but I've found the waterproofing only lasts about 1 year - even the GoreTex models.
A small custom and quality company in Intervale , New Hampshire . "Limmer Boots " makes , as well as selling other manufacturers , hiking and related boots. The Limmer Boot, is a high quality custom boot. Might be worth checking them out. On line.
I'm not sure about the waterproof, but I think Asolo makes the best boots.
Though boot choice is affected by the shape of your foot, terrain, climate, and budget I would look at Keen footwear. I am a backpacker with wide feet and I own many pairs of Keens as well as other brands. My favorite for summer hiking is the waterproof/breathable targhee low, though I do have the mid version as well. I also use three pairs of Keen winter boots which are fantastic for snowshoeing and winter backpacking: growler, blackcomb, and delta.
