Do you think fighting should be banned from hockey? Why or why not?
Absolutely not! The fighting in hockey is a way the players police each other when on the ice. There are times when the referees or the NHL adminstration will miss calls. In order to have the offending players held accountable, there is a code of conduct for fighting. You ask how can something so barbaric have a code of conduct? There is a published book named "The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in the NHL" (http://www.amazon.com/Code-Unwritten-Ru … 1572437561) that could lend insight into why players fight. Some think its just to intimidate or just because the players are testosterone filled goons, yet the protection of star players and righting the wrongs done by opposing players is a fundamental found in society. People who want to abolish it don't understand the game and the culture of the sport and should not be so judgemental.
Wanted to throw in an update on the topic of fighting. Rosters tend not to have room for pure enforcers anymore, so fights are a lot more selective, it seems. Everyone needs to be a skill player, especially when the playoffs Rolla round so game play
