What is a Oar Fish?
Something strange washed up on the beach in Spain and we heard that it was everything from a dragon to a mermaid. Now they say it was a Oar Fish. What in the world is a Oar Fish. Can anyone tell me what a Oar Fish is?
An oarfish is the longest bony fish in the world, with a certain species of oarfish, the giant oarfish, being able to reach nearly 60 feet in length. They have a long dorsal fin that runs several feet from its head to a good length along its back, and are relatively serpentine in shape.
Very rarely are they ever seen, because most dwell in the deep ocean and only come to the surface when they're sick or dying. Because of this behavior and their obscurity otherwise, they're often attributed to being the source of sea serpent sightings.
