Over history many a regular seaosn baseball game has featured a horde of empty seats. And yes, the abjectly low attendance of the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays has been a punchline for some time.
But not only has it looked like attendance at games is way down this season, the stats show that indeed it's substantially down this year.

And keep in mind, attendance includes distributed/sold tickets. Whether or not the tickets get used is not factored in. And if you watch a game these days, you can see that a lot of tickets are not getting used. Even the 6K-9K attendance figures for Marlins games seems rather high when you look at footage from their home games.
What factors do you think play into attendance being way down across the board?
Too many regular games. Too slow a sport. Not violent enough and action. For me, I rather play baseball, than try to stay awake watching it.

Is Baseball a dying sport?I think yes. World Series ratings are down by 65% in the last 25 years. Same goes for the All Star Game. Fox had its worst year in ratings for their game of the week in 2012 (averaged a 2 share for 24 games). Don't let the local TV deals or fantasy leagues fool you.

Does the Florida Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton deserve a 13-year, $325 million contract? All of it is guaranteed and he has an opt-out after 6 seasons. The Marlins haven't spent any money the past few years and have been criticized by the MLB office for being too far under budget.

...all done deals. Is Manny next? I was hearing Bonds' name a week or two ago (albeit, mostly to deny rumored consideration) but I haven't heard anything lately. I heard Maddux mentioned today but that's unlikely since he has to approve of any trade and he doesn't want to move his...

WHY baseball stats often come up with 'team X is half a game, or a game and a half, behind team Y.' ????!!!!I have watched baseball games, both in person, and on TV; yet never have I ever seen only half a game played! Extra innings to break ties, yes, but I hardly think they count those as...
