Should Caitlin Clark lose fans over liking a tweet endorsing Harris?

For those of you who don't know who Caitlin Clark is, she's a female basketball player in the WNBA.   She made a name for herself in college playing for Iowa, where she made her patented 3 point shots from the logo of the freaking basketball court almost all the time.  She also owns the record for most points in NCAA history among both men and women in college basketball.   Now, she's in the WNBA, where many feel she's the odds on favorite to win rookie of the year.  However, there's a problem.  From my understanding, she liked a tweet recently from Taylor Swift endorsing Kamala Harris for president of the United States.   Personally, I don't see this as a big deal because all she did was like a tweet.  Nothing more.   Normally, Caitlin Clark is apolitical in all her interviews.  In fact, she outright often tries to refuse to partake in debates with online trolls, and she'll usually speak highly about anyone, even if the other person she's asked about is talking trash about her.  Sheryl Swoopes being the most notorious example, but I digress.

Needless to say, her liking this one tweet has made some of her alleged fans angry enough to say they're not watching her games anymore, nor will they continue to support her because of this.  Some citing because they don't want to endorse anyone who supports Kamala Harris, and others saying they refuse to follow athletes who can't keep their politics to themselves.

Again, I don't see this as a big deal considering it's not like Caitlin came out and told people to vote for Harris.  And as far as I know, she never condemned anyone for voting for Trump either.   Plus, her boyfriend, who works for the Indiana Pacers, has been very vocal about his support to Kamala Harris, so it's kind of expected that Caitlin would lean that way too.  Again, all she did was like a tweet, but it was enough to turn off some fans.  What do you think?  Are these fans overreacting?  Do you think Caitlin is in the right here?

It was risky. She showed her ignorance. Its better to keep quiet, than reveal one's brainlessness.

Yeah it was a bad move on her part from a business perspective considering a good portion of her base was from conservatives who just wanted to follow an athlete for once that was apolitical after being dicated to for years.   I hope this doesn't ruin her drawing power for the WNBA, but we'll see what happens.

In this age, people are tending to remove people from their orbits who disagree with them politically.  What was once just free market enterprise has now been labelled cancel culture.  And those who were originally critical of such a thing are now equally as guilty as they cancel anyone who supports left-leaning candidates.  It's amazing those people were ever basketball fans to start with since the game is so diverse.  Maybe they should have stuck to Nascar or the bull riding circuit.

I don't disagree. I honestly think this is much ado about nothing.  I honestly feel like if you're that easily offended, then that says more about you than it does anything else if that makes sense.
