Early in my diving yrs, it was common for me to dive to 60 ft to gather abalone and scallops of the coast of S Calif.
A good working dive is about 2 minutes.
I made a 100 ft free dive off Bimini in the Bahamas.
The challenge I and a diving friend made, was to free dive to the bottom in 100 ft of water and bring back a handful of sand.
It took me 4 tries to do it.
Oh my gosh Qwark that is amazing! How cool are you? I'm thinking waaaaaaaaayyyyyy cool.
I jumped off a small rock cliff one time, like maybe 10ft up. Even at that height I was too scared to dive in. But it was pretty comical. I'm a big girl, so my big butt made quite a splash!
Hahahaha...Intimat, that is funny!!
I started out as a commercial abalone diver in S Calif.
I was too poor to by a "lung."
I fell in love with "free diving."
I taught it to my son in the Keys in Fla.
He turned out to be a free and lung diver.
I quit a few years ago when I retired. Took up fishin'
Git in the lakes and ocean and try it with some real live fish. It's a beautiful world and fun.

You're welcome. And, I'm pretty happy and well.
Great!
You know Cags, I love the sea and watch every documentary I can see that involves exploration.
I am aquaphobic yet love the beach and the open sea.
I have struggled with it all my life.
still.... I can dream of making a dive by reading this thread.
hahahaha...Earn, I thought of you as being an "older" (ahem) Aussie beach bum and hot rodder...
45 yrs of free diving! I think My father may have been a "horny" dolphin...
Qwark

I would love to be so brave in water.
Just saw the edit. I will have a gander at it. I still put links up if asked to.
Isn't the water beautiful down there?
30 ft is a good dive.
Most reef fish are in a range from surface to about 70-80 ft.
I loved the big "jewfish"...200+ lbs in some of the coral caves.
I dove the Dominican Republic waters, Costa rica and all of the Bahamas. :
Qwark
Hey Qwark, I think the most I've gone is about 50ft. But, then again, it isn't something I would attempt at this age, however, at that time, I was much healthier.
50' is s good dive Cags!
Yer no slouch!
I'm healthy, but did it for almost 45 yrs. At almost 70?...naw!
I'll just go fishin'...

Is it fair that the beautiful game should have such a malicious presence within it?Should teams be able to lodge appeals against such an action for retrospective punishment?I've watched too many games recently which have infuriated me. Barcelona have a great attacking full back in Dani Alves who in...

Should you solo scuba dive? This used to be taboo in the dive industry but is now becoming more accepted. Some certification agencies have started offering solo diving courses. Is it smart or foolish? As a professional level diver is it "safer" to not have to...

I managed to get into a beginners scuba diving class for spring semester at my universtiy. You get certified for open water dives at the end of the term, so I'm super excited. My dad and older brother are both certified and got to dive in Hawaii and Florida- and we're from MI, so there's tons of...
