Choosing the Perfect Sunglasses for Our Face Shape(for Women)

Updated on April 12, 2012

Sometimes it is really hard to find the most suitable sunglasses because the trends don't always fit our faces. We go out shopping, we choose some very chic new pair of glasses and when we try them on - it looks as if this is someone else's face. We have all had that painful moment and that's why I've decided to write a small guide for us(women) in order to choose the perfect eyewear for our face shape.

These are the six main face shapes.

1. Heart Face Shape

This means: You have wide forehead and cheekbones narrowing to a small chin.

Which are the perfect sunglasses for me?: In order to minimize the width of the top of the face and draw the attention downwards, try frames that are wider at the bottom or cat's eye shaped glasses.

2. Triangle Face Shape

This means: You have wider forehead and cheekbones that narrow to your chin.

Which are the perfect sunglasses for me? Same as the heart-shaped face you need to minimize the width of the top of the face, try frames that are wider at the bottom.

What shouldn't I wear?: You should avoid wearing top-heavy styles that draw attention upward.

3. Lond Face Shape

This means: You have a long face with narrow cheeks and chin. You have a tall forehead and probably a longer nose.

Which are the perfect sunglasses for me?: To make an oblong face appear shorter and more balanced you should wear tall frames that shorten the face, over-sized glasses will look perfect on you.

What shouldn't I wear?: You shouldn't wear small and short frames that are out of proportion.

4. Square Face Shape

This means: You have an angular face with a strong jaw line, broad forehead and square chin.

Which are the perfect sunglasses for me?: To make a square face look longer and soften the angles, try narrow frame styles, frames that have more width than depth, and narrow ovals.

What shouldn't I wear?: You have to avoid wearing geometric and square shaped frames that accentuate angles of the face.

5. Oval Face Shape

This means: You have balanced proportions. Your cheekbones are high, you have a slightly narrow chin and middle-sized forehead.

Which are the perfect sunglasses for me?: Lucky you! Most of the sunglasses shapes suit you : oval, rectangular, square.

What shouldn't I wear?: You should try to avoid frames that are too big for your face.

6. Round Face Shape

This means: You have full cheeks, rounded chin with few angles. Width and length are in same proportions.

Which are the perfect glasses for me?: You should make your face appear thinner and longer, try angular narrow, eyeglass frames and rectangular or horizontal styles to lengthen the face.

What shouldn't I wear?: You should avoid wearing small and short frames and also round- shaped sunglasses.
