Fresh Mint Lip Gloss

Cheap and Versatile Ingredients ~

Yes folks, this recipe is using FRESH mint and not peppermint or spearmint essential oil as in previous lippy recipes. What it is, is another ultra simple recipe using only 3 ingredients that do not require special equipment in the kitchen.

My last homemade recipe for lips, a beetroot lip stain used two of the same base ingredients so this recipe can be made to utilize the same lip luscious beeswax and almond oil.

Lip gloss is usually made with color but this one is colorless for that glossy natural look to be worn alone or even over your favorite lipstick to give it a kick and raise it up a notch.

  • Allow to cool slightly.
  • Pour into your lip gloss holders.
  • When completely cool, screw on applicator wand or lid of jar and keep in the fridge if you want in warm climates or store in a cool dark place.

Lips & Tips ~

if you wish to make half the quantity (1/2 oz) them just half each ingredient measure.

Each week treat your lips to a lip scrub to remove any dry skin, dead skin cells and render the lips soft, with an even texture that will make your lip gloss application a smoother one.

Each night apply a drop of olive oil, almond oil or coconut oil on the lips to keep them conditioned and nourished.

Experiment with this recipe swapping different ingredients in.

Essential oils such as lavender, rose, patchouli, peppermint, orange and lemon for example could be used in place of mint.

If you are allergic to beeswax you can use emulsifying wax or carnuba wax instead. MountainRoseHerbs.com is the place to purchase these and indeed all ingredients and containers for homemade products.

Do you ever sleep? It must be two a.m. there and you are posting hubs? Talk about incredible dedication to your craft! I bow down in your direction...let's see, that is east, right? Okay, I'm bowing.

All I know about lip gloss is that it tastes good if you kiss it, but Bev doesn't wear makeup of any sort, so my experience is clouded by quite a few years, which is a good thing if I want to remain healthy...not that Bev has a temper of course, but I'm just saying. :)

Great job of course, Irish! I hope you and the Mickster are doing well in preparation for the big move.

I need to try this!! I have a bunch of mint growing in the backyard and most of the rest of the ingredients. Do you usually order the Stakich beeswax you have posted or are there other brands you like, as well?

      Hi Bill,

I know it may seem that way, I don't need much sleep unlike the other half who needs his 8 hrs! I needed to get it finished so . . . Well Mickster loves lippy but probably a bit like yourself in respect of kissing it! Mind you, he will gladly put a slick of lip gloss on his lips as he likes the feel of it! Thanks Bill as always, will be over your neck of the woods to "catch up" on pearls of wisdom missed!

      Hi Brenda,

Thanks for dropping by. Beeswax I would highly recommend visiting mountainroseherbs.com as their beeswax is definitely the business! Since I moved a year ago to where my partner lives (rural, no good suppliers I have found unless I go to Dublin and prices can still be high) I tend to order online. Mountain Rose beeswax they do the block or pellets and in different sizes so do check them out. I just love their stuff by the way not affiliated or on commission with them! Hope you make some gloss with that gorgeous mint you have. Thanks again!

Suzi, I was unaware of the healing properties of mint. I have some growing in my yard. Can you write some hubs on how to use mint for the benefits you list above?

Hey Suzie. I love mint but to be honest have never used lip gloss. This sounds great however. Good to know that mint has so many health benefits. You are the Martha Stewart of Hubville :) Keep up the great work. When is the big move?
