Heliodor or Yellow Beryl Gemstone

Heliodor is a stone belonging to the Beryl Gemstones family. It is also referred to as the Golden Beryl or Yellow Emerald. It is actually beryllium aluminum silicate and can appear in a spectrum of colors ranging from yellow to yellow-green and orange to brown. The other members of the Beryl family include Emerald, Aquamarine, Goshenite, Morganite and Red Beryl. Heliodor is a comforting stone and is named after its pale yellow or golden yellow color from the Greek words ‘helios’ and ‘doros’ which means ‘gift from the sun’. The Greeks believed that heliodor contained the power and warmth of the sun and that it was responsible for the alternation of day and night. The color of this stone is due to the presence of iron in place of aluminum in the structure of the crystal. It was discovered in Namibia in the year 1910. The largest faceted heliodor is 2,054 carats and is on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. Flawless Heliodor is quite rare and comes with a high price tag. This stone is associated with the Planet Jupiter. A dream of this golden yellow stone is an indication of color coming success and recognition.

Heliodor is associated with the Zodiac Signs of Gemini, Leo and Scorpio and is the birthstone representing the month of November. This stone is associated with the Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras. This stone has a hardness rating of 7.5 to 8 with a hexagonal crystal structure and is suitable for gemstone jewelry.
