Preventing and Treating Sun Damage

Preventing and treating sun damage is a major part of skin care especially when it comes to your face. Sunlight can damage your skin even when you are outside in overcast weather not just in the summer while you are getting a tan, or in my case a burn. Damage from UV rays is one of the major causes of the loss of elasticity in the skin, causing wrinkles to form and the skin to sag. This can easily be prevented. Some prevention tips are listed below.

Sun Screen

Sun screen is not just for the summer time. A light SPF should be used every day an hour or two before you leave the house. This helps prevent sun damage to your skin and the development of free radicals.

Makeup with SPF

Did you know that many brands of makeup actually put SPF in there products. This is a great way to put two steps into one. To make things really simple you can check to see if your usual makeup is available with SPF.

Avoid tanning

Okay I know this will be a hard step for some but try avoiding tanning salons and even tanning on the beach. Tans may be beautiful but they are terrible for your skin. You can find many different kinds of self tanning products that offer the look of a tan without the damage of a real tan these self tanning lotions and spray tans are a much healthier choice.

Facial scrubs

Facial scrubs and soaps with exfoliating beads in them are really good for removing dead skin cells promoting new skin cell growth. You can even make your very own homemade exfoliate scrub in just a couple of minutes. Mix a couple of spoonfuls of honey with a couple of spoonfuls of sugar. Then scrub your face with this mixture. Rinse when finished and then you are done.

Make up removal

It is not only important to use makeup with SPF but makeup removal is just as important. Removing all the makeup and grime from your face before you sleep will prevent clogged pores and pimples. Pimples cause scars, blemishes and redness. Washing your face in the morning and at night will help with this greatly.

If you are having trouble removing makeup try using a little olive oil mixed with water this should make the makeup come right off.

Some skin repairing tips

There are some really simple ways to repair skin damage. Some tips are listed bellow.

Face masks

Face masks help remove dead skin cells and promote new skin growth. Getting rid of the damaged skin is a great way to help new healthy skin grow. Face masks are full of nutrients and vitamins that will help repair your skin. Look for face masks with a lot of antioxidants they are great for picking up free radicals that occur from sun damage. You can make a face mask at home with ingredients that are probably in your kitchen already. One of my favorites is the lemon and honey face mask. I use this one all the time and it takes less than five minutes. There are also face mask packets in most grocery stores they can be found in or near the cosmetics section.

Hydration is important when maintaining your beauty. This means not only keeping your skin moisturized but also drinking plenty of water. Dried out skin is a sign of dehydration and or poor diet. If you are looking for some natural moisturizers that you can find around the house you could try olive oil or honey. You can buy moisturizing creams to help if dry skin is an ongoing problem. There are also soaps available for sensitive skin. Some soaps can dry out sensitive skin.

Good Nutrition

Eating a healthy diet is another way to enhance and maintain your faces natural beauty. Fruits, veggies, nuts and berries are full of vitamins that are good for you. These vitamins, protiens and anitoxidants will give make you feel great and give your skin a naturally beautiful glow. When your body is full of the vitamins and nutrients it needs it can then more easily repair damage on its own as well as keep its elasticity. This will keep your face looking radiant and youthfull.
