How to Make Your Own Canola Oil Cream in Minutes
Canola oil is a humble ingredient in most kitchen cupboards, but it deserves praise as a moisturizer for dry and cracked skin as well. Dry skin can be uncomfortable and the flaking and dry patches can be unsightly. Moisturizing is a must regardless of the time of year, and canola oil is one of the best and cheapest ways to give any homemade skin care product a real moisture boost.
What Canola Oil Can do for You
It’s a superb moisturizer, and also acts as an emollient. This just means that it locks in moisture and helps to hydrate the skin for longer periods of time. It is also rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, much like olive oil, but tends to cost less. It helps protect against aging through its natural defense against free radicals.
Canola Oil Lotion
Ingredients:
250ml Canola Oil
60ml Pure Coconut oil
60ml Refined Beeswax
60ml Distilled Water
4 drops Lavender oil
Instructions
Step 1: Mix the coconut oil and canola oil together and then add in the beeswax.
Step 2 Heat the mixture over a low heat or in the microwave while stirring every so often. Once the beeswax has melted down, proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Take the oil mixture off the heat and add the water slowly while blending the mixture with a hand whisk or handheld blender. You’ll see the water and oil emulsify and the mixture will become creamy. If you like a thinner consistency, just add more water to the mixture.
Step 4: Add the lavender oil last and stir it in to help it combine with the other ingredients. You could use any other essential oil of your choice, but lavender not only soothes the emotions, it also has a soothing effect on the skin and also has an anti microbial effect. Tea tree oil may be a better option if infection is a concern, or for problem skin, but the scent is not as pleasant as lavender, rose or chamomile oil.
The oils we often use in cooking can be used to nourish our skins from the outside as well. This homemade canola oil lotion can be anywhere on the body, and will have an anti-aging effect as well because of its high vitamin E content.
