TOP 8: A Raving ELF Cosmetics Review

Updated on October 2, 2014

Where to Buy ELF Cosmetics

  • Some Target & Walmart stores
  • Some Dollar Tree and similar discount stores
  • ELF Website

An Affordable Cosmetics Company

Eyes Lips Face Cosmetics, more commonly known by it's acronym ELF, is a wide range cosmetics company who offers quality product at insanely affordable rates. Their basic line costs only $1.00 in the U.S. for each product, and most products retail for $5.00 or less. Some would shy away from these products, not trusting their quality when they are able to offer such low prices, but as many Makeup Guru's on YouTube prove, their quality is impeccable. Below are the top ten products I would recommend to someone new to the brand, in no particular order. They are quality cosmetics, at low prices, that every makeup wearer should have in their collection.

1: ELF Studio Powder Brush

The Eyes Lips Face Studio Powder Brush is a synthetic hair, flat top, kabuki style powder brush that is more commonly used to apply foundation. This brush retails for only $3.00 on the ELF website and has been rated 5 out of 5 stars by over 1000 purchasers. The sleek black design is similar to many high end brands and the hairs are softer than other brushes that cost twice it's price or more. The Studio Powder Brush is often times many women's first purchase when attempting to apply their foundation with a kabuki style brush, and it is a great starter brush for teens as well.

2: ELF Studio Blush in Candid Coral

Many of ELF's studio blushes are wonderful but the color Candid Coral is an essential. It's a peachy coral color that flatters all skin tones and give a natural glow. The Studio Blushers, like the studio line brushes, are only $3.00 each. The packaging is divine and reminiscent of the high end brand NARS packaging, without the waxy and sticky problems. You can even find many blush dupes in the ELF line for the high end NARS colors. This blush is well pigmented, doesn't appear chalky on the skin and gives lasting color to your cheeks.

3. ELF Daily Brush Cleaner

The Daily Brush Cleaner is a must have! I use this product more than any other product in my makeup collection. Although I am disappointed that Eyes Lips Face recently cut the quantity of product you get in half but did not alter the price, I still re-purchase this product every time I run low. At the ELF website you can pick up a 2.02 oz bottle for only 3 dollars. This amount, even if used daily will last several months when used to spot clean your brushes. Remember, your makeup brushes should be deep cleaned about once a week to keep them in good condition and free of bacteria.

4. ELF Studio High Definition Powder

The High Definition Powder is a loose setting powder that comes in three shades; translucent, shimmer and corrective yellow. This finely milled powder absorbs oils and minimizes the appearance of fine lines, pores and minor imperfections. It is ideal for photo shoots and special events because of it's ability to provide a "soft focus" effect on the skin. The packaging is a little bulky, and the product can be quite messy if not properly stored. This product is often compared to the much more expensive High Definition powder that is carried by the high end makeup brand, Makeup Forever. The corrective yellow is also often considered a dupe for the Ben Nye Banana powder, made famous by Kim Kardashian.

5. ELF Essential Eyelid Primer

An eyelid primer is used on bare eyelids to create a perfect canvas for other products. It helps keep eyelids matte and improves the longevity of eyeshadow. This primer comes in packaging similar to a lip gloss, complete with a doe foot applicator. Purchasers have the choice of four shades; sheer, champagne, pearl and golden. For all of the great benefits of this product and it's proven quality, most are shocked that it's priced at only $1.00 per tube. I find that this product lasts a really long time and never dries out in the tube, allowing me to use the last bits!

6. ELF Essential Custom Compact with Mirror

These four space compacts are sleek, affordable (only $1.00) and durable. The four compartments have a built in magnetic system that works well with the ELF essential single shadows. The thin design and secure closure makes this mini palette perfect for throwing in a purse or makeup bag for touch ups on the go. The shape and size of the compartments also allow you to use these palettes for other cosmetics brands like MAC and similar round shadow pans. It's great to use these to make a custom quad to take traveling.

7. ELF Essential Luscious Liquid Lipstick

These highly pigmented lipsticks come in slim, convenient packaging. The tube features a sponge tip applicator and twist mechanics to release the product. There are currently 11 shades to choose from and they are always adding more. Some of my favorites are; strawberry, pink lemonade and ruby slipper. At only $1.00 each, you can definitely afford to try out several colors or collect them all.

8. ELF Makeup Mist and Set

The Makeup Mist and Set comes in the same packaging as the daily brush cleaner. This product is designed to lock your makeup in place for hours. It can also help give a dewier finish to matte foundations. To use the ELF Makeup Mist and Set, you simply close your eyes and give your entire face a few sprays from an arms length away. I use this product on hot days, and when I know I will be doing something active in my makeup like dancing.

ELF Cosmetics Coupon

The eyes lips face website consistently has coupons and deals on their website. It is definitely worth signing up for their newsletter to find out when your favorite products are on sale. You will also receive special offers on your Birthday!
