My Journey to a Modern Hairstyle

What is your definition of a modern hairstyle?

I have been working really hard to get my body back in shape. I've had three babies in the past four years so it hasnât exactly been easy but Iâm finally starting to see results. I wanted a haircut that was young, fresh and modern. I wanted to look the way I felt on the inside.

Iâve had long hair most of my life but I took the plunge several months ago and cut nearly eight inches off my hair. It was drastic but if felt great. Unfortunately, it wasnât long before my hair started to grow out. I started to pull it up in my usually hairstyle, a ponytail.

This was the beginning of a journey for me. I started flirting with the idea of cutting my hair very short but I wasnât sure I could go through with it. What would my husband think? What if I didnât like it?

I did it! I cut it and I absolutely love it!

I have very thin hair. I like for my hair to look full and to have some structure. Root lifter has become my new best friend. You can simply spray this foam on the root and blow dry. It's a very light weight product so it doesn't weigh your hair down or make your hair look greasy if you live in a hot climate.

Okay, Here I am the morning of my appointment with my hairstylist. Do I look scared? It's because I'm having second thoughts. This is what my hair looked like straight out of the shower. I decided I would style my hair so I could show my hair stylist what I like about my current style and what I wanted to change.

I also wanted to be 100% sure that I was tired of my old haircut.

I printed off a photo of a hairstyle that I thought would suit me and tucked it in my purse.

Yes I liked having long hair that I could braid, straighten and curl but I didn't have time for that. I was pulling it up in a pony tail or a bun almost everyday so I could get out of the house with three small kids.

Here it is my new haircut. It's short, layered, fun and funky so..... what's with the purple highlights? I didn't want to look like a tired mom that cut all of her hair off because she couldn't find time for herself.

The highlights were another step in my journey to feeling complete again. I'm finally starting to feel like I'm still an independent, strong woman as well as a mother and wife.

I haven't always felt that way. Some days I feel like I get lost in the shuffle of laundry, bed time stories and trips to the grocery store.

I'm not really sure what to do with my new short hair. I guess that is the point. I can spray a little product, blow dry and walk out the door.

How do I feel about having short hair after all these years. It's a bit of a shock when i look in the mirror in the morning but it feels amazing. I feel sexy and confident. I think I'm going to keep this hairstyle for a while.

Stayed tuned I'm going to be experimenting with my curling iron in the next couple of days.
