Going to Church - A Necessity or Wasted Activity?
"Can we really do without God in our lives?"
It’s true that people don't go to Church and some are drifting away. To have an idea of how people feel about it, I posted this question in Forums a while ago: Can we really do without God in our lives? http://hubpages.com/question/21817/can-we-really-do-without-god-in-our-lives
.
Here are some of the responses I received:
- “God NEEDS US... not the other way around.”
- “For everyone it's a personal choice. Me, I'm doing fine without him.”
- “For sure! I can do without Her. I need no gods or fairy tales to live my life. I value love, compassion and truth ... that's all I need.”
- “Who would want to. Life without Him would be an empty life. I have had my time without him and life was miserable.”
- “The greatest accomplishment of the devil is to make people believe that god does not exsist..... THINK ABOUT IT!”
Interesting Comments and thanks to all who contributed.
Why some people don't go to Church
In my Humble opinion, people don’t go to church for the following reasons:
a) Firstly, some people don’t believe in God. Some don’t even believe He exists. Infact they make a mockery of Christianity.
b) Secondly, some have been through personal traumatic experiences and don’t understand why. Example losing a new born baby days within giving birth. Babies are so innocent. Why should it happen? For some, it's losing their beloved spouse so early in life etc. While some find solace in attending church in such situations, others turn their back and you can’t blame them.
c) Sadly, hearing/reading stories of Catholic priests abusing kids which is dominating the News at the moment. Ministers having affairs, Gay pastors etc. The news caption on Sky News today 3 April 2010 was: “Archbishop of Cantebury says Catholic Church in Ireland has lost all credibility because of the Child abuse Scandal.” A case of one Bad Egg, spoils the whole basket.
d) Also, some people in church are not loving and not practicing Christianity. They turn a blind eye when others go through a hard time or even start gossiping about them. Example, if someone with Kids is going through a hard time financially, nothings stops another christian from dropping off some shopping/groceries for them or giving them a small amount of money in an envelope instead of just saying “God Bless you my sister, it shall be well – Jesus loves you” and leaving them empty handed.
e) Finally, some are very comfortable in life. They have it all and see no reason whatsoever to go to church, They have about 4 Cars, massive house, holiday homes in other parts of the world, a bank account that makes the Bank Manager smile each time they call and they give a lot to Charity too. If at all such people go to church its usually Christmas or to attend weddings. Some of these people also think church is for poor people.
My personal thoughts...
I don’t like to write religious Hubs as I’ve noticed it’s a touchy area for people on HP. However, the small point I will make in conclusion is that, the world we live in also has dark forces and it’s up to us to take authority. Christianity or Life is not a bed of roses and the enemy (satan) comes to steal and destroy. Example, if you are about to lose something precious. You have to take authority, pray, read the Word/promise of God for that situation and the enemy will have no choice but to loose it’s hold. Somehow, miraculously you will find your way out of problems.
Personally, I think it's good to go to church. It does make a positive difference. How would I have the wisdom to face life's challenges, if I didn't have the required tools? i.e. the knowledge for it. Where do I get the knowledge? I'll let you answer that question.
Thanks so much for reading.
