A Recipe For Amish Friendship Chocolate Bread
Here is a recipe to use Amish Friendship Bread Starter with. It is absolutely delicious! I have made this for years and friends never get tired of receiving it for gifts! What makes this bread so delicious, in my opinion, is the flavor the chocolate pudding gives.
I enjoy making this recipe every couple of months. Mostly for myself, but I do give a lot of it away to friends. One or another friend (or family member) it seems is always asking for some.
Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (6 serving) package of instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 loaf pans, 9 x 5 inches
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease the loaf pans.
In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and chocolate pudding.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add the starter, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla.
Mix all of it together thoroughly and pour into the loaf pans.
Bake about 60 minutes. It is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes and then remove from pans.
These make great gifts. I make mini loafs once in a while when I have a lot of friends I want to give them to. When baking as a mini loaf, watch the time. They will not need to bake as long as a normal size loaf. I hate to say it, but I have never timed how long it takes the mini loaves to bake. If you bake a lot you will understand when I say you know by glancing in at them if they are close to being done or still have a ways to go!
You can add other ingredients to this recipe also. I like it perfectly fine plain. I have had a friend tell me she added maraschino cherries to the batter before she baked it. She said it turned out good, but I have not tried that. I have added walnuts to the batter and that was very good, but I could add walnuts to anything and at least think about tasting it!
