Plans & Tools

Writing is like the simple part of rocket science. You need to start with a good plan, and then work hard to get it right.

However, writing online to earn money can be fun and even exciting. Watching your daily and monthly revenue totals rise is akin to watching your first rocket lift off and ascend toward the clouds.

This article is a collection of tools and procedures to set up a few accounts and get started making money.

Linking non-revenue articles and revenue earning articles on hub pages will bring more traffic to your hubs.

One way to increase annual income is to convert your knowledge into cash. Write about what you know, then use affiliate marketing, advertising, and other revenue methods. You might even write a book or a dozen books.

Making money online is the new frontier.

Many people make their full income online. Learn from the successful. The book, “Get Rich Click!” taught me how to increase my $30 monthly online income to $700 per month. It is still going up...

I really started to make money writing online when I began to read the advice and methods of successful online writers. If you want to make money like us, you need to read.

The Plan

A short term plan and a long term plan together are needed. In the short term, simply enroll in hub pages. Hub pages earns you revenue in three obvious ways, and in some slightly creative ways most writers don't know about. But you have found the right article to get you started not only earning money, but also saving some money. Keep reading to find out how to earn money writing online!

How to Open a Hub Pages Account

Hub Pages offers you a very generous revenue sharing plan. Every article, poem, short story, recipe, or video you post online will come with ads inserted by hub pages. No soliciting local advertisers, no administrative billing work for you. Hub pages does this automatically. To sign up for hub pages, go to the link at the bottom of the article, or click here: Sign up for Hub Pages.

Example: Set up easy-to-use capsules to insert ads into your article pages:

A second way to earn money comes in the form of easy to use Amazon and eBay sales capsules. These capsules are super easy to use. I'll add an Amazon capsule below this text capsule to show you how easy it is. In the left margin, a blue marker appears as I scroll up and down until I arrive at the desired insertion point. This marker says "add" on it. I click the blue marker, and move right to "Amazon". I click it, and the capsule instantly appears.

It is that easy!

Once the Amazon capsule is in place, click "edit" on the capsule. A pop up window appears. You have to do two things to activate it. First, add a title. I'll name the capsule "Writing Guides". Second, I choose "keywords" and type in the words "writing" and "guide".

Look at the tab below. The hub pages capsule automatically selects the closest results and displays them. I have no idea what you see right now... But, these two books are for sale. If anyone clicks that ad, and then purchases the offered books- or any other books during that same visit- Amazon compensates the hub author with a 4% commission. Sell 7 or more units of something in a tracking period, and the commission increases to 6%.

Phase II: Link Building

After you have a hub pages account set up, and a few articles successfully posted, build some links.

A link is a very simple thing. It directs readers from one place on the Internet to your revenue earning articles on hubpages, called hubs.

Ezine articles will increase your revenue by creating links to your hubs. Each article on Ezine provides two outgoing links. These links will increase traffic to your hubs in two ways. First, readers of your Ezine article will click through to your hubs. Second, Google will recognize the links from Ezine to your hubs and increase their relevance in search.

Use the link at the bottom of this hub to join Ezine Articles.

Why Ezine Articles are Important

Ezine articles alone do not produce ad revenue. They are excellent for two types of people. The primary user writes quality content so potential customers find products and services the writer sells. A real estate agent writes about how to find good deals, for example, and leaves contact information in the signature block at the bottom of the article. Adsense earners use the links to promote their ad-bearing hubs.

Google likes Ezine because Ezine staff review every article. No junk articles or unoriginal content are published on Ezine. Google, therefore, elevates ezine articles in search rankings. Links from ezine.com, likewise, are more valuable in elevating your hubs.

A rule of thumb is to write one ezine article per two hubs. The article has two links allocated. Use one each for two hubs. For example, an ezine about finding value in the real estate market can link to one hub about choosing the right appraiser and a second hub about acquiring favorable mortgages in a tight market.

Join RedGage for instant links. I joined redgage after initially posting this article. I already have more than 200 YouTube videos and over 100 Blogger posts. Creating the links to my hubs was incredibly easy. Signing up took less than a minute! Join RedGage Now. RedGage also pays account holders a "rate" for each view. The more views it gets, the higher the rate. The more people you refer each month, the higher your rate as well. On just my 5th day as a RedGage member, one of my links was "featured" on the log in page. I earned an instant $2 feature bonus, and that article received 500 views in a few days. By the time I hit two weeks on RedGage, I already received another feature bonus, $1.25 for a movie review. In my first month, I earned $30.40 ($3.25 for two feature bonuses, $25 in a contest, and another $2.15 for 3580 views). All I have done on Redgage is produce links to hubpages, YouTube, and blog postings already written.

After three weeks of RedGage, I earned $4.74. This start surpasses my initial earnings on any other money making site, including Blogger, YouTube, and even Hubpages. Redgage does not increase views to articles. It seems Redgage copies the content to their own server, and pulls the material from there. This is not a problem. The goal is to increase clicks on ads. That has happened on articles posted to Redgage. My click through rate increased on ezines 423.8%. Apparently, those who click a link at Redgage to reach an article are the same folk who will click to reach the next interesting article as well.

Phase III: A blog

The best free blog is Blogger. You will also earn adsense revenue on Blogger. In fact, you can do just this to earn money. Hub Pages pays more than blogger, however.

But, Google liked Blogspot enough to acquire it. So, you can be sure they will favor their own product in search results. The other thing Blogger does is convert your site to several other languages and automatically create a mirror site. You will see the effectiveness of this in your free traffic reports.

Write blog posts related to the hubs you have already prepared. Insert links in your blogging to send readers to your hubs. This increases page views, and, statistically, clicks on ads. Clicks convert to revenue.

More Ways to Earn Money Hubbing

Hubbers write hubs. We call the process, "hubbing". It has nothing to do with parking too close to a concrete curb or stealing the metal covers of wheels.

Tax Write Offs

To make money hubbing, treat it like a business. For example, write a series of hubs about the best restaurants in your town. It takes money to make money. You need to eat at the restaurant to know if it is the best restaurant in Modesto, right? That cost is a business expense. You will need photos to make a quality hub. Transfer your camera to your business, and the expense is now a tax write-off. Write movie reviews and the tickets are an expense for your ad revenue business.

You will also claim your Google checks and your hub pages deposits as income on your return. The IRS expects that a reasonable person will only pursue a negative cash flow enterprise for three years before cancelling it.

I often write at coffee shops. I save these receipts as they are part of the cost in producing quality and volume. (Too many distractions at home!)

Win Contests

Hub pages also runs writing contests to inspire more content to their site. They do give you 60% of every click's value. However, their own 40% adds up for them. Helping you earn helps them earn. So, they offer monetary prizes for the contests. They pay for best hub of the day, of the week, and of the month in various contests. Once you start hubbing, you will see the contest notifications.

Inbound Marketing

If you or your spouse has a business selling services or goods, you can attract customers with hubs. Increasing each year, people search for providers of goods and services online. Customers will find your hubs and contact you as new customers.

Convert Research into Hubs

We all occasionally must search for the best local Chinese restaurant, or discover whether it is cheaper to use PayPal or a bank wire to transfer money. Take your notes and create a hub. Chances are, other people have the same question. One of my best hubs, earning me regular revenue, resulted from one of these regular researches. I needed to know if it is cheaper for my customer to send $800 via bank wire or Paypal.

Your views and revenue will increase with the quality of your hubs.

Fine Tune Your Hubs to Bring the Most Traffic

I have another well-written hub explaining how to refine existing hubs to draw more traffic. How to double or triple daily views to your articles. You will find a lot of comments after the end of the article. People really appreciate this hub. Be sure to view it after you join hub pages and put up some content.

Read this hub by HubPages staff on what comprises a hub which will attract high traffic volume: Elements of a Stellar Hub.

Add New Hubs and Articles Periodically

Hub Pages and Google have something in common. Both reward currently active writers. Hubpages accounts which become inactive quickly lose the lion's share of daily views they received from links from related articles on HP. Google, likewise, expects its users want current information, and updated data.

Point is, you should update blogs, writing accounts, and other nodes of your promotion network at least monthly. At this time, I have not optimized this. However, I try to write one new post per blog each month, and I now write at least one new hub per month as well.

Additional Benefits of Hub Pages

Something Hub Pages was designed to offer writers is this: a positive community. Notice in the comments below the free proof reading and suggestions I received. I incorporated those changes into the article you are reading, improving it's 'net value.

The flaming that happens on YouTube, facebook, and in online forums is simply not allowed. The Hub Pages community is one of the best online. And, you are welcome!

Find Piece Work for Writers Online

Using hubpages, you will hone your writing technique and ability. You will begin to form a residual income stream- income that keeps coming without you working it.

However, you can also earn money copywriting, writing ad copy, preparing news releases, and performing other writing tasks for businesses. Two sites that offer these jobs regularly are:

odesk.com

guru.com

Setting up accounts is easy. You can begin "bidding" on jobs as soon as you enroll.
