Asus RT-N66U Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router - Review

Updated on January 14, 2018

The RT-N66U delivers a total speed of 900 Mpbs through concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The dual bands allow you to perform basic Internet tasks on the 2.4 GHz band while streaming HD content and performing other bandwidth-hogging operations on the 5 GHz channel. We've seen noticeable increases in performance on all our PCs, laptops, tablets and smart phones.

Incredible signal strength. It even works in my detached garage that's 200 feet away, and my daughter can log in from the neighbor's!

Easy setup. It only took a few minutes to set up. No CDs to install! Just connect to a PC, smartphone or tablet for worry-free setup. All your devices will be surf-ready in no time.

Fast CPU and lots of RAM. The RT-N66U handles multiple connections and heavy loads with ease. We have three gamers in the house, and nobody is complaining about lag.

Flexible configuration. This is the most advanced configuration I've ever seen. The menu is sleek and easy to navigate, and you can customize the settings any way you like. You can easily prioritize Web traffic so that bandwidth goes where you need it. For example, I give PC gaming the highest priority and torrent downloading the lowest

File Sharing. Two built-in USB ports plus Apple iOS and Android apps make sharing files a snap.

Not the latest, greatest. If you're into bragging rights as opposed to performance, this might not be for you. There are newer routers out there with the latest speed protocol. However, this one was manufactured at the end of the product life cycle. The technology is tried and true and absolutely solid.

Bridge configuration. If you use this router for a bridge it will use one of the bands (2, 4 or 5) just
for the bridge. In addition, the bridge only supports WEP.

Final Verdict

I bought this router on the recommendation of a friend, and I couldn't be happier. This router has been rock-solid for me. It dramatically increased the speed and range of my network and has helped to bring peace to my household because we're no longer knocking one another offline.

All in all, I think this is one of the best routers available on the market in terms of speed, range, customization, and ease of use. You cannot go wrong with this router! Click add-to-cart now, and be on your way to faster, worry-free connectivity for all your wireless devices.
