Best Webcams - Best Web Camera

Updated on September 23, 2016

Webcams (web cameras) are small video cameras whose images can be accessed using the World Wide Web, instant messaging, or a PC video conferencing application.

The term webcam is also used to describe the low-resolution digital video cameras designed for such purposes but which can also be used to record in a non-real-time mode.

Web-accessible cameras involve a digital camera which uploads images to a web server either continuously or at regular intervals. This may be achieved by a camera attached to a PC or by dedicated hardware.

It is also possible to use a webcam as a security camera and be able to see what is happening even when you are away.

Use of webcams at work and home has become a world wide web cultural revolution and a change in how we communicate with each other.

This technology is now available on thousands of websites world wide making it easier for people to connect online and communicate from anywhere in the world.

People can broadcast or web cast their opinions, interests and stories whenever and as often as they wish. Youtube is a good example of how people can express whatever they feel using their own webcams.

    Recently i bought a Logitech C270.

It records HD video with a very clear image and sound is fantastic (but mono).

If makes diference to you the video works well with linux (but i cant get audio working).

In Brazil it cost half the price of the ‘next models’ in family.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Hi Disberg, I also got a Logitech HD Pro Webcam and still haven`t find any downsides too. It`s possible to find very good deals on Ebay sometimes.

I use the LOGITECH QUICKCAM CONNECT WEBCAM WITH MICROPHONE CAMERA 1.3 (last years model) I paid $69.99 for it new.

I see EBay is selling one(see below) - bet it's hot

    Current Bid: $13.99

I hadn't a clue when I went to buy one. So before buying I surfed Future Shop, a couple of local retail outlets and settled on Staples, looking at all the reviews. The logitech webcam I got is sort of in the middle from what I could figure and if there is a downside I haven't found it yet. 1 Vote here for Logitech

Hi John, if what you´re looking for it´s a wireless security camera then D-link must be one of the best choices (but also pricey). You can also check out the TRENDnet Wireless cams, they also seem like a good choice ;)

I must admit I did not think about this kind of use when I made this hub but it´s true that this kind of Internet cameras are becoming very popular because you can control what happens from your cellphone or from your PC no matter where you are ;)

Good luck with your security system ;)

Hi no-cam-man, there are better webcams but if you want a good webcam on low budget I would choose the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX. For better results I advise you to record your singings on miniDV and then upload it to youtube, you´ll find many good video cameras here:

Cool site. but I am looking for a camera that would be good for youtube videos with me singing and I would like if when I moved it would not be blurry. also i want my voice and the picture to be sync. the cheaper the better.

I know this is a lot but Can you help me?

  • funride profile imageAUTHOR

Hi Becky, I am sure you can do that with almost any web cam but if you want to have better image definition you should choose a good web camera. As to the sound I think you better use a external mic. This way you´ll have better sound and also the possibility of having people talking with each other. After you got all the equipment you just have to invite all your families to your msn or other network and share all the fun with them.

I wish your parents a happy golden anniversary and lots of FUN to everyone!

I have families in the Philippines, Bahrain, Dubai, Italy and here in the U.S. We are planning to do our parent's golden anniversary and have everyone share it via web cam. I am looking for web camera where it can show the party and they can hear and watch the ceremony live. Seem to much? Is it possible?

I don´t know if there is one "the best", it depends on your needs and your system specifications. But if I had to choose I should go for one of the Logitech, good quality/price relation ;)

LOL I suppose that is not a big problem I had the same problem when I started selecting my webcam, to many choices and too many technical details ;)

It depends on your needs and your system. I have buy the CP Flexcam cause it´s a good choice for laptop and because I didn´t need bigger resolution. I also think that Logitech provides a very good selection of webcams.
