As today's standard, this could be considered the least storage capacity that you should look into when shopping for an external hard disk drive.

Almost every hard drive and storage solution manufacturer carries this storage capacity in their product range. Trusted brands such as Seagate, Buffalo, Western Digital, Iomega, Maxtor, Toshiba and Samsung offer this range of capacity in their products. The price of a 250 gb portable hard drive varies depending on the brand and features that it has. A normal one will cost you around 50 to 60 bucks while some other might cost you up to hundred plus.

Portable hard drive is more durable compares to a non-portable one; it is designed with shock resistance feature in mind so that your valuable data would not get damaged or corrupted when you are on the go (hard drives are fragile things).

P.S. I am referring to the Hitach simple mini drive, that now doesn't open up and has all my files trapped.

In addition, it had been having backup problems. At the outset, the Arc Data software included with it worked beautifully, I could back up 6-7 gigs in an hour and a half. Then suddenly, it took over 9 hours to back up the SAME drive with 2-3 gigs added (9 gigs total). At the end of that hell on wheels, it crashed, out of system resources, and did not produce the link at the end that you can click to restore these backed up files to your hard drive. I had to start all over again. This time, the SAME backup took only 4-5 hours, and it produced the restore link. But now, as the whole drive seems to be defective and is no longer producing the ICON required to click and access it, I am totally screwed. Thanks for nothing, Hitachi !!!!!

I purchased this a month ago. I backed up my 2 hard drives. I brought it to my technician at the store where she was doing data rescue on hard drive number 3. Back home, I just plugged it into my home computer, and it's dead in the water. It shows no icon in My Computer, it only declares that I should use a faster usb port, but that always happened and didn't stop it from working. Now, I have the contents of 3 hard drives, including a $400 data rescue, stuck on this piece of crap, and I can't get my hands on ANY of my own files. Congratulations. How much is THIS MESS now going to cost me to get hundreds of hours of my files off this thing?
