Fixing an Acer Aspire One NAV50 with Broken Keyboard (In Vancouver)
I picked up this Acer Aspire One netbook NAV50 on 4April12 to fix it so that it can be reused again. The owner told me that it was not broken at all. It's also in very good condition. The problem is that he broke the space bar.
At home, I inspected the netbook. The keyboard space bar was missing, the center of the touchpad had been smoothed out and the product key at the bottom cover is not legible.
I ordered a new keyboard for it which arrived on 24April12. After replacing the broken keyboard, I pressed down the Alt key and tapped the F10 key when the netbook was powered on. I got the Acer eRecovery Management screen to restore the netbook. I selected the option to clear all data to remove any personal information inside the hard drive. It took 18 minutes to complete the formatting and restore. However, it did not asked for the product code which I believe is stored in the recovery partition.
When the netbook was started up, Windows 7 Starter desktop was displayed. I tested it on running YouTube video using wireless connection. I found a bright arc of a few mm long on the screen down below the word "YouTube". Other than that, the netbook runs good.
I charged the battery to 100%. The battery icon displays 2Hr at 98% charged.
It was picked up on 7July 2012 by a young guy who lives in Vancouver.
