Gadgets: Clickfree External Backup Drive Moves Files Between Multiple Computers
Are you one of those gamblers that go for weeks, months or even years without backing up your data? Do you wish that it were easier to move data from one computer to another? If you are I hope to change that.
Backing up is not my problem. I am very adamant about keeping my files safe and often back them up on multiple drives. The most import files are more likely to be backed up on a daily basis while some of the less important files are more hit and miss. I use a flash drive for short-term backups and for long-term backups I use a Maxtor 250GB external hard drive. There are a few CDs in my safety deposit box as well.
However, I always dread moving files from one computer to another. Just when I think I have them all I realize that I do not. If I am home I just reboot the old computer and copy the file but if I am on the road that is not an option. That is if I am lucky – if the old computer is not bootable I am probably out of luck.
A Clickfree drive is one of the best ways to backup an entire computer’s worth of files. The one I purchased is a 160GB capacity but there is a 250GB capacity version available. The ease of use and the unique features is what sold me.
There is no software to load. You simply plug the Clickfree external backup drive into the USB port of a computer. The device will automatically start to backup the files – all of them. Even your Internet “favorites” will be backed up. If you have one, two or ten computers this same drive will back them all up (as long as the total storage needed does not exceed the drive’s capacity). Each computer's files will be kept seperate from the others.
I have to say that one of my favorite features is that you can restore the files of one computer to a different computer. That is right – no more cables to string between computers and no more paying someone else to do it for you.
Now that you know how easy it is to backup and restore your data from one or multiple computers there is no good excuse to loose data. Just think – you could even use the Clickfree to backup your parent’s computer – how great is that? No more frantic phone calls telling you that something has gone terribly wrong because they know that you have got it all handled.
