Web space - free with Talk Talk
We’ve been using the broad-band company Talk Talk to connect to the internet. We chose Talk Talk because of the price. At about 6 and-a-half quid for broad band, it seemed like the deal to go for – although we did have to move our telephone line from BT to get his deal. What we didn’t know until fairly recently is that they also provide free web space for you to use too. It’s not much, but may come in handy.
The web space provided by Talk Talk
The space provided isn’t huge by any means. You get about 15meg; to the non technical amongst you, you won’t be able to store your DVD collection online with this sort of space. What you can do though is create a few web pages to tell the world what you want.
Name of your webspce.
Your domain name (this is how you will access your site) is a “sub domain” of TalkTalk.net. So any name you give your webspace will have “TalkTalk.net” after it. Perhaps an example will help clarify things. We created a name called “internetaffiliation”. This means that our web space is called internetaffiliation.talktalk.net.
Do I have to be technical to set-up a website on TalkTalk
The webspace offered by TalkTalk is very basic, so you won’t get any website design packages thrown in. You will need to know how to create your site, using such things as HTML. If you’re familiar with how to create a web page, then you’re away. Just do your normal thing, and FTP the site onto your web space. You are then good to go!
Is this for me
If I’ve completely confused you with talk of HTML and FTP, this free Talk Talk space may not be for you. If however you have a basic idea how these things work, and you’re currently using talk talk as your internet provider, why not? It’s free after all, so you’ve got nothing to lose
