HCL ME Tablet X1 review
HCL ME X1 tablet has been released to market at a price of Rs. 10500. There are cheaper tablets available in the market, lacking some features starting from Aakash tablet at a price of $35. Also there are high end tablets like iPad from Apple, Galaxy Tabs from Samsung. So we can consider HCL ME X1 as a mid range tablet. It comes with very good configuration wise and aesthetic features.
It runs on a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and posses 512MB RAM, so performance and speed is not bad. But this speed is available even in phones of the range. Display is also decent at this price. You are also getting an internal memory of 4GB. So there is no need to worry about moving apps to memory card. It also supports memory card up to 32GB. Even though front camera of decent quality is present for video calling, there is no other secondary camera. It supports Wi-Fi and 3G using USB dongles. Also you cannot find a regular USB port, only mini USB port is available. It supports most of the video formats with built in hardware support. So there is no need to worry to search for secondary media playing apps. Also there is built in Flash support. Also there is a built in microphone. Making video calling easy. The size of the tablet is also very handy. The capacitive touch screen is responsive. So it is one of the good tablets available in this price range.
But there are some serious cons for this tablet, which may hinder some users from purchasing this tablet. HCL provides only ME app store in this tablet. It contains only some 10k of apps, but it is nothing compared to Android Market containing 2 lakh of apps. But HCL is not allowing Android market in this tablet. You cannot find regular USB port in the tablet. It would have been very useful, if you had one, as it supports all media formats, you could have easily watched movies from your pen drive itself. Also there is built in SIM card support. Even in Aakash tablet of $35 you can find SIM card module. So you cannot use 3G sim in the tablet to get 3G access but you have to use USB dongle type 3G devices. So making call from this device using s SIM is not at all possible
